Back about 1986 or so a friend of mine had a 1973 Malibu wagon, I told him if he ever wanted to sell it, I'd buy it. Main reason I wanted it was because it had swivel bucket seats and a console / floor shifter which for a wagon was pretty cool. Well, after about a year he called and I bought it. Drove it for about a year myself and then traded it in on a Honda Accord.
A year or so later I see a 1974 Malibu wagon on highway 73 in the Lake Norman area at a gas station for sale, car had the Laguna front end. I didn't have time to stop and ask about it at the time, went by the next day. It was gone, sold.
I grew up in wagons, first a 1955 Chevy two door ( not a Nomad ) and then a 1966 Belair. Sometime back before the Malibu wagon I had, I bought a 1966 Caprice wagon from a guy who ran the body shop at the Chevy dealer in Gastonia so you know it had nice paint. This was a loaded car, 396 engine, 12 bolt rear, 400 trans, PS, PB, AM/FM, cruise, tilt wheel, 9 passenger seating, roof rack, wood grain on the side, Reese hitch, for a 1966 model it had everything. All I did was put a set of 8" Corvette rally wheels on it and drive it. I really miss that car. A friend of mine bought a Caprice wagon about two years ago that is identical to the one I used to own, really brings back memories.
