We're gonna shake things up a bit at Old Fort MultiGun for our April 27th match!

2 Gun only with a carbine/rifle heavy focus. We've offered 2 or 3 Gun the last several matches, and 2 Gun has definitely been the more popular choice.

So, what does that mean?
- A bit more distance, most inside of 400 yards with a max of 600. I'll likely still run my 11.5" SBR!
- Positional Shooting! Vtac boards, barricades, improvised supports
- Probably a little less movement.
- Higher rifle round count. Exact round count TBD but plan on shooting...a lot!
- Less reset! More steel!

We'll run 3 Divisions:
- LPVO w/optics up to 4x
- DMR w/optics up to 8x
- Open - anything goes!

Bags, bipods, tripods, all the latest doo-dads are all good to go in every division. But, you must start your stage with all gear in hand and off the ground. No prepositioned tripods or bags!

I'm really looking forward to this one!

Side note: Have you seen the price of groceries? Unfortunately, the BBQ crew isn't going to make it to this one. BYO lunch.

******* ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT SHOOTING PAST 100 YARDS?! *******
Let me know! If we have a few folks that want to work up DOPE for the match, we'll arrange a pratice day to get your drop charts figured out.

In.... Now hopefully, I can get more couch potatoes out so I'm not last! These are my favorite matches with some of the best people in our community!

Dang….15 slots already filled.

I'm assuming you want to run an AR right? No prs bolt guns.
Run whatever you like!

BUT....the plan is for more DMR/SPR and less PRS in nature. There will be some amount of movement through a couple of the stages.

I've made 1 post about this match here and on the socials....we're over 1/2 way sold out already.

Here's a sample stage brief. This stage will have rifle targets from 100 to 600 yards, not necessarily known distances:

Stage 2 - Penalty Box
90 second par time
Shooter starts with rifle magazine inserted, bolt closed on EMPTY chamber.

Shooter may use bags/bipods on the bench, but may not sit. Build shooting position on the clock, bags/bipods must be in-hand at the start.
Butt must be in the air while shooting (10 second procedural for each shot take while sitting)

Engage 6 <color> steel with rifle, 1 impact each. If a target is missed, shooter must engage the <different color> 100 yard penalty target before going back to missed target.
Engage safety.

Finish with 3 impacts on pistol steel.

Example:
Shooter makes rifle hits at 100 and 200, misses at 300. Shooter must make a rifle hit on the penalty target before going back to 300.

Looks like I'll be able to make it

Signing up on payday.
Can we get a rough round count?

And is the second gun a pistol or shotgun?
Pistol.

No round count yet, but expect a LOT of rifle - 100-150 isn’t out of the question.

We’re nearing sell out!

We are officially sold out, but there is a waitlist (hit the practiscore link to register for wait list!).

Stage have been sketched. It's gonna be a ton of fun!

I have a couple 'rule' changes in mind to really challenge the shooter's skill. Primarily...no sight pictures! Some of y'all take more time getting sight pictures and 'air gunning' a stage than you do actually shooting. The rule is going to be, "You're up...shooter ready? Beeeeeeppppp!" No opportunity to adjust parrallax, test your stance or walk through. Just get the brief and go.

I agree with making the time after brief short to keep things moving but NO time after brief to sort things out seems pretty unfair. The first couple of shooters up are at a huge disadvantage compared to the rest of the squad who gets ample time to do stage planning.

Fair point.

Lemme see what I can come up with that is fair while keeping the pace up.

Like Quote ReplyGood point, rotating the shooting order helps some, but the later shooters are always gonna have an advantage.

As usual, we have a bunch of folks whose wives have spoken and can no longer attend.

I've cleared the wait list and have 1 open slot. And the icing on the cake...it's on my and Frank's squad.

You *may* be told on the registration page that the match is full and there's a waitlist. I'm not sure why practiscore does that when I have a slot open. Anyway, sign up and let me know here or via PM. When the last slot is filled I'll update here.

Are you registered? If so, please go to practiscore and withdraw

Great event per usual!!! I need to drink a whole drum of be better.

Definitely need to spend more time with the LVPO and new contacts... I'd like to think I would have done better with RDS/ magnifier.

Good match today. There were a few challenges out there that made it interesting. Couldn’t ask for better weather. Thanks to the MD, ROs, and Frank.

This was truly one of the most fun matches I’ve shot in a while. Maybe just because it’s what I enjoy most, rifle shooting.

Thanks to all that came out! Of course I’m biased, but I think the stages were particularly fun and challenging. I really enjoyed hearing “well…you can only see part of the target…” and being able to respond with a mischievous “yup, that’s right!”

Hearing people actually cheer when a shooter managed to FINISH a stage was awesome. All around a great group to hang with for the day.

I had a ton of fun on stage 2…until my shoulder decided not to cooperate!

AAR from a newbie.

Disclaimer: I am extremely grateful for @Tim and @VOD Tactical for organizing these events that are extremely new shooter friendly! I’ve only shot in three competitions all at VOD. And to say that my shooting is at a novice level is a vast exaggeration.

I’ll try to make my report painless unlike the “Carbine Crusher” yesterday.

Started on stage 5 so I work from there forward on how our squad shot.

Stage 5 - It felt like Tim kicked me in the gut when I was down! I timed out.

Stage 1 - Frank knocked me out with a perfect left hook! DNF Massive hole in my game with off shoulder shooting my rifle.

Stage 2 - Stiff jab to the nose! I timed out.

Stage 3 - I slipped the jab and ducked the hook. Shot this stage clean and hit the HVT bonus.

Stage 4 - This was a perfect 1-2 combo that sent me home with my tail between my legs. I timed out.

What an awesome experience it was, and humbled me and showed me what I need to train in the future!

Thanks again to Tim and Frank!!!

Awesome AAR! 😅

Don’t feel bad, those were some really difficult stages. We had a lot of very good shooters time out, especially on 4 & 5

At this point.... I need to invest in one of those rifle spinners and take myself to school. I swear, those things kick my hind end every single time!

If you're one of 2 shooters that dinged up our brand new steel with AP ammo this weekend....you owe Frank a couple hundred bucks and a kick in the nuts.

🤬
ROs equipped with these will keep AP ammo from being used.

Any shooter found with mags loaded with AP ammo prior to running a stage is immediately
DQed and/or banned.

i think a lot of the abuse the spinner got was it was doing triple duty as the spinner, the penalty target and the high value target.
Started on stage 4. i never got past the first 400 yard target on stage 4 or stage 5 so on stage 5 i shot the spinner a bunch.
like @johnpaulgolf i never got off a shot left handed on stage 1.
Stage 2, and 3 i could not get past targets in the woods. i have always had problems with grey steel in woods/shade. i can see it with the spotting scope, just not naked eye or rifle scope.
i did get to the wooden barricade on stage 2, just could not get target acquistion at 45 degrees.
Stage 3 i could not find the second smaller target.
Not only did i time out on every stage, i never got off the first pistol shot. when @Tim called it a rifle match, that is what it was for me.
i still had a good time and surprised that i finished in the top 85%.
Gonna re-position scope on rifle for better eye relief and try to shoot more.

Thoughts on this past weekend
I came into this weekend being a fairly good shot and actually having some chops behind me. (I was the guy in the Zerotech Jersey for those who met me)
Had a few hiccups the night before and had to switch to a new scope and "zerod" it to around 100 yards so that hurt a LOT.

But the stages were challenging, were a kick in the teeth...and fun. I was thrilled when I finished stage 3. It was the first stage in which I didnt have some equipment issue (my damn scope mount came off one stage, warner scope mounts are NOT supposed to just come off). But, the event was as lot of fun and challenging. I would love to do it again and this time actually have my rifle doped for the yardage we are going.

Thank you to all that came out! We had a blast putting this one together.

We called this match the "CRUSHER" intentionally. It wasn't our typical 2/3-Gun match.

For the folks that DIDN'T come out, and are seeing all of the "I didn't finish stages..." comments, let me give some context. These stages were INTENTIONALLY difficult, and we fully expected even the best of shooters to be challenged. That was our goal.

I had top-tier shooters, guys that stand a chance of winning most matches they go to, come up to me EXCITED about "hey! I actually finished stage 4..but dang, 5 ate my lunch!". In my mind, 'easy' stages aren't all that much fun. I'd much rather be challenged right up to the end. FWIW, I didn't finish stage 4 (over the log) even though I'm the one that set it up!

One shooter, he's actually a match director for some of the major DMR matches, RO'd for us. During our walk through he was advocating that we move a prop because "you can barely see that target...". Stage 2 (tires), middle target. I explained that was the intention and the shooter would just need to figure it out. I got a lot of push back....until the end of day when I was told "that was my favorite stage, I really had to work at it!"

My favorite part of the match wasn't hearing people compare times like usually happens, it was the actual CHEERING when a dude finished a stage with 0.5 seconds to spare.

So...yes, you'll probably time out on a stage or 2 at these matches. But, everyone is in the same boat and you learn a heck of a lot about your skills and equipment.
