Besides things like firearm proficiency and describing some general usage of supplies, how would you prepare your wife if you were going away for 6-12mths?
Show her the labeled switches in your electrical panels for various things in the home, the water cutoff valves, prepare a list of phone numbers of people that YOU can trust and also know will respond if she calls them for help.
Thanks for starting this thread as I'm sure there's gonna be some great answers posted here.
It honestly depends on the wife and what she's capable of/has experience with.
For some simply giving them a list of phone numbers of people you trust to come to her aid in an emergency might be sufficient (give them her number and introduce them if she they haven't met too). This would be my wife now. When we first met it would have been a helluva lot more.
For others you may need to make detailed lists of what to do and as Brangus said label the switches etc.
You may need to also make a list of bills that need to be paid and how to pay them.
Make sure she has a list with all the passwords to accounts etc.
As catfish said you may need a lawn service too.
Leave her a supply of condoms so that you don't catch anything when you return.
Trust but verify, know what I'm sayin'.Hidden cameras.

Considering all the things my wife needs mee for I would Re-up her AAA membership, hire a lawn service and buy her a Costco-sized box of AA batteries.

As long as she has internet access my wife will be fine. I was on a out-of-state hunting trip one time and the heat went out in the pump house and a pipe froze on the water pump. She got online, looked at a bunch of youtube videos, went to one of the big box hardware stores, bought what was needed and repaired it herself. No big deal.
lolIf I can get away for 6-12 month I'm not coming back.
Cancel the contract with the pool guy.
I told you you shouldn't have asked me to go by and check on her.My first couldn’t make it four weeks.

All good ideas but shouldn't we have already prepared her for doing without us?? We never know which morning we aren't going wake up.... Mass education, all at one time one time will have 50% loss rate, gradual education over time will last much longer...
And you know what?? TODAY is a great day to start.....Tomorrow is guaranteed to no one...
That's what I've been doing for the past 10 years. I've been training her to survive without me. Who knows when your called back to the home above. Every situation is different. It may be SHTF, or it may just be our time to go. I try and pass all my knowledge onto my wife and kids/grandkids. Wife is a pretty smart lady. As long as she can google it, I think she can handle most anything home related. All good ideas but shouldn't we have already prepared her for doing without us??
