Why is it so hard to find a plain 20 inch AR?

Maybe because unless yer shooting service rifle matches, the 20" barrels with carrying handle are about as useful as tits on a boar. 4" extra barrel length (vs. a 16") on a .223 gives you just about jackshit in terms of accuracy or ballistics. If you wanna play operator, the barrel gets in the way of every effing thing & if the 20"er was so great, the military never woulda gone to the 14.5" M4.

If you just want it to play dress up, yer probably gonna hafta build it yerself, in which case I recommend you stop picking flyshit outta pepper, buy the effing parts already & quit damn whining about it.
I’m perfectly fine with a 20 inch barrel. It IS superior at range. I’m not playing dress-up though i’ll admit I first got interested after seeing the deputies in First Blood as a kid, but when I held one for the first time I knew I needed it. I’ve wanted an older AR my entire life, sick of tiny carbines and front heavy barrel, and triangular handguards cup my hand great & give a better grip than circular ribbed ones, especially those stupid thick M4 ones even without a quad-rail. Also I LIKE IRON SIGHTS, and if I ever needed a scope it’s more efficient mounted higher. As I said before, I like what I like & i’m good with what I like. I just can’t afford it, I even changed the ad to say SP1 or slabside retro build just to see if I can get ANYTHING at all.

Here we go, change the hand guard and flash hider, and you're ready. And, he's open to trades.

Trades. Also what’s with the nickel-plated charging handle and tube handguard on the last one?

I have no idea. I wanted to demonstrate it took me all of five minutes to find what you are looking for. I hate to say this but you on a good day you have $700ish worth of trade fodder. Like the man said "money talks, bullspit walks". Either pony up or quit whining that you can't find a mint collectable AR-15 for pennies.

Don't think the CH is nickeled as it is an aluminum part. I would think someone over cleaned it and removed it. Early free float handguard is more interesting.

You people just don't get it. You ARE going to find exactly what he's looking for, dammit. Now quit BSing and find that rifle per his criteria.

NOW
I don’t even care anymore. I just want a retro build that isn’t a horrible mis-match. I still need trades because NO ONE IS BUYING.

...sick of tiny carbines and front heavy barrel... ...and if I ever needed a scope it’s more efficient mounted higher...

The scope mounting height has already been addressed, but how does "tiny carbine" equate to "front heavy barrel", while a longer, 20" barrel does not? You have any real experience handling a long gun under stress/duress? You ever humped a rifle 20+ miles in a day? You ever schlep one through the briars or drag a deer outta the woods while totin' it the whole way? I don't know why yer so bent on this particular rifle, but it's obvious you don't have a clue about why you want it, because you don't, apparently, have any experience actually using one.

If you just wanna geek out with a 20" AR, then geek the F out & get it over with, but fer kripe's sake, just STFU & build it already. You gotta rebut each & every helpful reply you've gotten on here. If it means that friggin' much to you, stop picking flyshit outta pepper & either do it yerself or shut up about it.

Heavy barrel on carbines with light furniture, original 20 inch 1x12 barrel is light enough to be fired one-handed like a pistol using the sights even in rifle size. Yes, I do have experience with older ARs, I’m better with them than modern garbage, most “upgrades” are not necessary whatsoever. I’m not some Bubba wanting to play with what he saw in Apocalypse Now, I’m willing to bet my life on such an “outdated” rifle and would use it for hunting where legal. I have stated previously why I cannot build.

Stop beating around the bush and tell us how you REALLY feel Carl!

Weights of barrels (stolen from http://ar15armory.com/forums/topic/130526-pencil-vs-military-barrel/)

20" 'Pencil' (A1) Profile 1.8lbs
16" Medium Profile (0.75" for entire length) 1.8
16" Mid Length (Govt Profile under handguards) 1.6lbs
20" Govt (A2) Profile 2.1lbs

So......that theory is out the window.

Oh and by way of comparison:

Faxon 16" 'Gunner' barrel (stepped down from Govt to Pencil .625 gas block) 1.37lbs

BA's performance series 16" pencil barrel is similar at 1.4lbs.

So no a longer 20" pencil barrel is not lighter. It's the SAME or heavier than a comparable diameter 16" barrel, with more front-heavy leverage. And a longer thinner barrel means more harmonics and whip effect under fire.

Yet you want to Defoe it one handed ala Platoon. This is a serious question---is the DPMS you are offering for trade the only modern AR you have experience with? And why in the hell do you want a 1/12 twist barrel? It may come as a suprise but the changes made to the platform were done make the rifle a more effective weapon. I am starting to think you are either a troll or are the God of Fudds.

People are buying but they tend not to buy from folks who don't take the time to post pictures/price normally. Face the fact you will either need to build or pay the going rate.

It was an example of the light weight, also I haven’t actually seen Platoon though I have a tape.B83D17CA-E588-4261-8970-9AD659E2EDFC.jpeg
