Hey y'all! As of the current moment, the next firearm I want to get is a Glock 34 Gen 5 MOS. I currently like it for the following reasons:
Its magazines fit in my EDC, my Gen 5 Glock 19, so there's mag reciprocity
It comes pre-fitted with an MOS plate, which I intend to use to affix a good quality red dot, probably Vortex or Burris.
I have six 31 round magazines that I panic-bought from PSA and want to effectively use them. They've been reliable in my 19 and I think they'd get good use in a G34.
The Gen 5 improvements over the Gen 4 are satisfactory enough to me that at the current moment, I feel I would be happy with the gun as it comes in stock configuration. It comes with a "good" barrel, a "good" trigger, and with the MOS it means my sight is as good as the red dot I put on it.
But I've had a few discussions with my roommate, who suggests that getting a G34 for competition usage is not the wisest choice, and I should really consider other options, such as a metal-framed CZ. This is a reasonable assertion, but eh... I really want the G34? In a nutshell, I don't necessarily want to believe that's the case just yet. I just want one because... well, I want it. But I admit that's not enough of a reason, especially when the pistol costs $750.
So my question to y'all is what shooting competitions are there in which a Glock 34 Gen 5 would see effective, practical and competitive use right out of the box? In the end, the more important element is individual training and proficiency, which believe me, I've put the work in already with my current guns and will continue to do so with any gun I do get. This question relates to any kind of firearms competition. Speed, accuracy, anything that really gives the model a chance to shine, in which its innate qualities make it competitive with other like models. What is the G34 *good at*? What *isn't* it good at?
And I suppose I'm really going to get myself roasted for this one, but for the same price point, are there other guns I should really be considering instead? Why, and for which types of competition are other models recommended?
I recognize that there are people on this forum that are far more experienced than me, and I'd really like those folks' advice on where to go from here. I've never been to a competition before, but shooting is my passion, and I want to show that competitively - smartly. Thanks a bunch!
