I have been finding maggots in some of the peaches that I have picked from our tree.
First, I thought maggots only ate rotting meat. Wrong. The maggots of fruit flies eat the pulp of overripe or decaying fruits. This where I get confused (about maggots and fruit).
If the peaches are still on the trees, can they really be considered overripe or decaying? I would assume falling to the ground is a good indicator, but I picked a few today that had to be "snapped" from the limb. I haven't cut them open to see if they had maggots inside, but they did have the small holes on them like the ones that maggots were found in.
