So this morning Tony sets up a man-shaped target with boxes on the head, chest and pelvic areas. He tells me to start with the gun down lower than usual (forgot the term he used), then just bring it up and shoot two in the chest, then 1 in the head, then 2 more in the chest, then 2 in the junk! And to do it faster than I'm used to and not to think too much about it. Basically, he's pushing me to see what I can do, I guess. And it was my best shooting of the day! After that he had me shoot with my LEFT HAND!!! (Yeah, yeah, I know you guys do this shit all the time, but it was new to me.) And I did really well, surprised myself, but Tony wasn't surprised, he said. I shot the target and in mostly the right places.
Things kinda went back to normal low left shooting after the great start, with a few bursts of inspiration each time he let me shoot at a person-shaped target.
All in all a fantastic day, and my coach says I'm doing really well, though we still have to figure out the trigger finger placement again, and the occasional flinch.
The Blazer rounds did fine and we went thru almost 150 of them.
Now, why is the end of my barrel a funny color? That's a new thing.
PS I shot the snappy revolver at the end, and shot it well!!! Yay, I'm keeping it, because it didn't hurt me this time. I'll shoot some with it every time I go over there.
Pics to follow.

Glad to hear your skills are sharpening. Post a pic of the muzzle I’d imagine it’s either carbon build up if it’s darkened or a bit of wear from the barrel rubbing the slide a bit.

I rubbed it and it didn't come off, it looks whitish in areas and bluish in others. Pics are hard for me but I'll bet one up here so you can see. Lol. And I just noticed when looking straight into the barrel....empty gun, no magazine in it either, before y'all get all nutso about me looking at it....and there's sort of a whitish star shaped ring all around it...kinda cool-looking.

Oh no....you want me to take it apart?????? I'm looking at the top of the slide at the end of the barrel and from the front where to hole is....please don't make me break that sucker down! It's hard work to get the thingy in the slide lined up just right to push the other thingy out.....I'm sure there are technical terms for these, but you know what thingies I mean, I'm sure! Right? Lol.

Then how are you going toclean it?

Shoulder thingy that goes up. :p

LOL!
I've actually already cleaned it once, but it was a struggle. I'll have to clean it before next range trip, but not right now.....please?

That’s carbon fouling. Now big deal. Get an old tooth brush and some gun cleaner and scrub it gently. Then re oil the slide and your good to go. Every round you fire sends unburnt powder and other carbon debris out the barrel and it sticks to every thing. Some ammo is dirtier than others.

Thanks. I heard in chat that this blazer I got a buttload of is dirty stuff! Apparently so, because I never saw this on the gun before.

Millie - If this is your carry gun, you should clean it regularly whether you shoot it or not. I clean and oil mine every two weeks because I carry it all day everyday. Lint, skin cells and perspiration accumulate. This gun needs to be reliably functional should (God forbid) you be required to defend yourself.

That's an excellent point! And this thing is getting shot more every week, so I'd better get with the cleaning! And apparently the rounds I'm using now are "dirty"....lol.

Cheap ammo is sometimes “dirtier”. But, as Miss Lily pointed out, it’s a VERY GOOD IDEA to get used to cleaning your gun(s) regardless. Now that you know you gun eats that ammo, buy another “buttload” before the rebate ends. You’ll be out after another outing or two. ;)

BTW I got back on the horse and shot the revolver today... the one that you warned me not to take my CC test with, and it ended up bruising me? I handled it like a champ today!

Yeah, I shot up close to 150 today!
You did get the left hand shooting part right? Lol. I did good!

How much cheaper is the Blazer per round, after rebate, than what you were paying before?

well it was $85 w/ tax for 350, then i need to do the rebate, not sure how that works yet.
The others I was buying at the range were $15 or so for 50, and some i got online were 12.99 per box of 50 but had massive shipping.

Means you’re saving almost 50%. You’re welcome. ;)

@Millie , think back to where you first joined us here and think of the progress that you've made. You should be very proud of yourself and you'll only get more comfortable and better as you go along. Congrats to you!

More about cleaning. I saw you mentioned the slide didn’t lock back each time the magazine was empty. A gun cleaning may help but perhaps not. The magazine(s) and components may also need cleaning. If cleaning the gun and mag(s) doesn’t solve the problem, it could be time for replacement magazine springs. The advice you got to number your magazines will help you identify whether it’s a gun issue or isolated to one particular magazine. :)

As to cleaning, your coach should be able to show you in a 5 or so minutes how to breakdown your Sig. As to cleaning and lubricating that should take another 5 minutes for the Sig and revolver both.

As to the pelvic girdle, it is actually a very nice target. You have the lower region of the intestinal tract, bladder, iliac artery and pelvic structure. You put a couple handgun rounds in there and you’re gonna do damage. Pain and likely some major internal bleeding with the chance of doing some orthopedic damage to the bones and connective tissues. Plus the pelvic region is a target that is harder for a bad guy to bob and weave with than say a head fake. Even worse think about what a couple OO buck rounds would do down there. If you have time for a precision head shoot damn straight but reactive shooting ...

As to ammo, you just need to watch the sites mentioned here for deals ... Target Sports, Palmetto State Armory, etc and order some when it does go on sale. Also my favorite NC store Outdoor Limited www.outdoorlimited.com if you feel like making a run up I-73 to High Point to pick it up. That goes for range ammo and SD ammo ... as well as a couple extra mags. When it comes down to it you really can’t have to much ammo.

Good job Millie! Coming along great! Don't sweat a little wear on your pistols. Its a sign that they are actually used! But yeah, learn to field strip and clean. You will quickly find out that it isn't nearly as daunting or difficult as you would expect.

As far as shooting low, yeah as NCFubar said, the pelvic girdle is a good place to pop. I once had an instructor basically explain to me that no matter how tough a guy is, if you put a round through his hip and shatter the bones there, he is going down. Couple that with all the other juicy targets there, nerves, arteries, veins, junk...My oldest brother likes shooting targets there, he figures if you are gonna shoot someone, may as well insult them as well.

Well, I took it apart to the extent that I got the slide off and all the goodies in there out and cleaned them up, along with the other half of the gun under the slide, like a video I saw. The slide is hard for me to line up just right, but I'll get better at it. The revolver is easy to do.
I have to say, I loved the man targets way more than the circles...sorry, guys! The revolver shots were the last ones and I put a big hurt on the guy's stuff, for sure!

Ole Girl, I know a heapa shooters. Never run across one that didn't own up to an occasional "oh shit". I certainly still do. Remember, I shoot every day. Don't be too hard on yourself and keep on keepin on. BB
Well, I signed up for 2 hours next lesson in 2 weeks, and I'll go next week by myself and go over what we did today.
I tend to judge myself a bit when I don't get the hang of something right away, but this is complicated stuff, and I am getting better, so I'm giving myself a pass on some stuff. Coach was pleased with progress!

Yes. I plan to mark them before my next trip. The ones with extensions are new, but the 6 round one came with the gun. We'll see what happens. And I'll look at the magazines and see what I can see.

Try this, I bought 2000 rnds of Remington 9mm last Thursday for $338 shipped to my door(was here Monday). No tax and bulk ammo ships for free. They run some good sales so sign up for their e-mails.

2000???
Well, a week ago I thought 350 was a lot, but now...I'm thinking maybe not! Thanks for the link.

Yeah, you guys must be shocked I'm still un-injured!! Lol.
But I am proud of myself for sticking with it...and surprised I'm enjoying the whole experience so much!

In my experience, with proper training, girls shoot better than boys 90% of the time. :p
When my son and daughter go shooting with me, it' not quite like that. I suppose you'll have to take my word for it, that they have proper training. But he's an athlete, and a natural shooter; she's athletic, and analytical.

He doesn't shoot except when he goes with us, maybe once a year. He shoots Bang! bullseye, Bang! bullseye, Bang! bullseye... then says, "This is fun. What will we do next?"

She shoots with her friends now and then, maybe three or four times a year. She shoots a group, but isn't satisfied. She shoots another group, with improvement. She shoots another group... we have to tear her away!

Neither one of 'em can outchoot me, though!:p:rolleyes:

Easier to teach to shoot, as well. Dudes all think they have some genetic mastery of firearms, where girls will pay attention & learn.

Millie- big kudos to you, chica. Impressive the way yer constantly seeking more knowledge & skill.
