DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Carolina Smoke & Guns has been operating as a gun dealer in Durham's Crooked Creek neighborhood for the past 7 years.

Recently, neighbors have begun to sound the alarm about the online store's presence in the 500 block of Wheeling Circle.

"It's sitting on the top of my mind," said nearby resident Eric Gomes, who lives with his daughter and wife. "Everyone and anyone can obtain a gun that this person is able to sell and able to ship it off."

Bastards wrote a hit piece on Carolina Smoke & Guns. A sponsor here and two fine people who are members...

Such irresponsible "journalism" it makes my blood boil...

I encourage those of you with Facebook to comment accordingly.

I used the complaint link on the article page too for what it's worth.

If (the business owner) is doing everything by the books and things are legally obtained, then I can only say so much," Gomes added.

So a neighbor who has absolutely zero clue as to how Shawn runs his business, went to the news/ city government dogs of war to bitch and complain?

Gomes needs an ass whoopin then a lesson in minding his own business

Not only calling his business practices into question, which are impeccable, but making him a target for the community... Despicable...

"Who's picking this up," Gomes asked. "And is (Carolina Smoke & Guns) doing their part to figure out is this a person that is safe enough for me to sell this to?"

I think that would be called a NICS background check, dumbass.

"Everyone and anyone can obtain a gun that this person is able to sell and able to ship it off."

This reads like something written in a foreign language and translated into English by a third party who speaks neither language proficiently.

@DeJuanABC11
If anyone has Twitter (I don't) explain to "DeJaun" what a home based FFL is.

Typical do-gooder busybody.

Probably saw someone carrying a firearm outta there, had a coniption fit because "GUNS" and got a weed up his ass to snitch to local government.

People need to mind their f*cking business.

#1 reason I am moving my business out of my house (although I sell no firearms) it’s the neighbors who will wreck the business not the business itself or the clients.

I feel for him.

It’s a bunch of neighbors who are pissed because he is conducting legal business inside his home and somehow their opinion counts. I am tired of peoples opinions counting.

WSF ... a woman found out when she zoogle something and “Carolina Smoke & Guns” was pinned on the zoogle map. She then went on NextDoor.com (a neighborhood forum host site) and started alarming everyone in her neighborhood as well as surrounding ones. The local news snoops troll these sites to see what they can dig up a lot so it might have been that ... or nosey bitch or some other liberal idiot on the forum contacted them.

I bet nobody had the decency to knock on Shawn’s door either. But now that the story is out I gotta wonder if Shawn and CSG is now on the radar of some Durham gangbangers? Shawn and his wife’s safety has been compromised by these idiots ... especially the TV idiot. And also IF they could get hands on any thing at Shawn’s, FFL storage requirement and inspections would make it hard, the Chicken Littles “sky is falling” BS could possibly put stolen stuff on the streets.

Sounds like maybe just one neighbor and the rest is made up to fit the headline...

I feel like there should be a crooked creek open carry rally and we should all legally set up appointments to buy firearms face to face on public property (the road outside the house of course)
The scarier and more "silenced" the gun the better haha.

I have no idea where Durham is but s*** like this pisses me off.

“Silencers, rifles and machine guns”. No 50 caliber body armor piercing high capacity ammunition or military-style assault rifles that weight as much as 10 moving boxes? Surely more sensational products could have been mentioned.

This is true investigative reporting worthy of a Pulitzer Prize.

I seriously considered applying for a home-based FFL. I discussed it with the local BATFE and County Zoning offices. With a letter from the county, BATFE would approve of my proposed business conditioned upon no transactions occurring at my home. I anyway wanted to conduct all such transactions at the Sheetz down the road so that wasn’t an issue for me. Had I gone ahead, I’d have made the exact same statement on my website, “Pickups by appointment only”. I had no intention of hanging out 10 hours a day at the gas station waiting for one’a you guys to let me make $10 on a gun or transfer. In my case, the meaning would’ve been, “Call me, tell me you’re on the way, and I’ll meet you at the aluminum table right of the entrance”.

Hopefully, Mr. Conver’s business has been conducted with off-site transactions. If so, there shouldn’t be much for the city to do. I suspect neighbors would have noticed a line of white supremacists carrying machine guns from the front door to their diesel F350’s there in Payton Place, NC.

Email DeJuan at [email protected].

Takes a real p.o.s. to attack a mans livelihood, especially without fact finding
Might be more effective to target his boss or someone higher up in the organization for their blatant lack of journalistic integrity and pandering to the Librul myths that “anyone can walk into a store and buy whatever the owner feels they’re safe enough to possess.”

Got an "on the scene" story about it coming up on WSOCTV this morning.

Fox8 in HP had it. They’re complaining that it’s listed as a consultant business but that they specialize in silencers and machine guns but didn’t mention any FFL. They want an investigation into whether or not this is “legal”.

According to the news story the only problem for them is that they are not supposed to have people picking up in person. If that is actually what the original permit says, they might lose their city permit.

There’s something in a name.
Would you expect more from some pitiful sap with a made up name he wouldn’t even fix? I’m guessing daddy’s was a Latino named Juan, hence the name ‘of John’.
You know a Tonka-niqua’s going to be an ox.

If you see it, post his supervisors email and addresses. They highlighted Shawns’.

It’s time to send in a serious and seasoned investigative reporter.

Thanks everyone. If the city comes after me I do not have the resources to fight it unfortunately. Thus is how they will take our rights by shutting down all the stores or taxing it to death
Let us know if we need to set up a Go Fund Me page for y'all. This is grade A crap. The entire gun community, not just this forum, needs to get behind issues like this.

Anyone can be a consultant, no FFL needed. :)

“Snitch” mentality.

It has been pushed so much and drilled into society’s heads that it’s embedded like a damned tick. Compound that with the “guns are bad” narrative and it’s a recipe for disaster...

“Gun = up to no good = gotta say something.”

No...you ain’t gotta say a friggon thing. Now, if you’re sitting in the parking lot of your local bank, you see a dude walking in, pulling a ski mask over his head and toting iron, you probably oughta make someone aware; but, seeing an individual carrying a firearm out of a residence where a legitimate business is located is not a reason to “sound the alarm”.

Situations like this only reinforce my current beliefs:

If you’re going to/returning from the range, be as stealthy as possible when you’re transferring firearms to/from your vehicle, especially if you have neighbors close by. If you don’t, you’re golden or if you have neighbors of like mind, you’re probably ok, but if you live in a subdivision that’s full of “town criers”, watch yourself.

Reason being, if TPTB ever do get their wet dream of tighter restrictions, bans, or outright prohibition, I will guarantee the airwaves, both tv and radio, will be filled with “see something, say something” PSAs. If you happen to have nosy neighbors and they see you carrying something they believe to be a weapon, they’ll be cackling like a damned murder of crows on a hawk.

If they’re close, get to know your neighbors. Now, don’t run up to em while they’re mowing the yard, thrown the “light in their face” and start an interrogation about their views on the RTKBA. Engage em in nonchalant, everyday conversation. Use current events as a lead-in to questions about firearms/firearms ownership. Do a bit of “intelligence gathering” to gauge where they stand/how they feel.

You might find you have folks around you that believe the same as you. If not, you may get a pretty good read on who’d be likely to drop a dime on your ass.
