I noticed, a few months ago, that all the local Walmarts have started posting an employee at both exists. Any time a person walks toward the exit carrying anything that's not in a bag, they stop you to ask for your receipt. They scan the receipt with a special scanner to see if you actually paid for it or not.

So, I decided months ago that I just was not going to stop for inspection. I honestly feel that they are treating honest customers like potential criminals. I have never stolen anything from any store. So, I decided that I would not comply.

Every time that one of these employees has asked me for my receipt I keep walking and politely say, "No, thanks. Have a good day!"

That's the way it has played out 20 or so times over the last few months, until today...

Today, I walked into the Siler City Walmart. I bought a Turkey Frying kit (pot, stand, propane regulator) and a 12pk of Bud Light.

I went to self check out, showed ID to the lady for my beer, made a joke about how I must look over 40 by now, and scanned both items. Then I paid, grabbed my receipt, and shoved it deep into my front pocket (under my LCP2 pocket holster); excited to walk past the door person carrying two items, not in a bag.

As I walked toward her, I saw her pick up the scanner and she said, "Hi sir! Can I see your rec...." I kept on walking and cut her off saying, "No thanks! Have a good day! " as I rounded the corner toward the parking lot.

Just as I got through the sliding doors into the cross walk I heard two voices behind me shouting, "SIR! SIR! WE NEED TO SEE YOUR RECEIPT. SIR! COME BACK HERE! "

I kept walking at exactly the same pace and never looked back. I pretended not to hear them as I went straight to my truck.

I put my two items into the truck, cranked up, and drove straight to the door, from which I had just come out, hoping to see the employees that had been calling out to me.

I drove past the door and saw an older lady and a teenage boy (with the stupidest haircut I have ever seen) both wearing yellow vests, and both starring straight at me. I can only describe it as "white trash death stare ".

I drove by very slowly, smiled, and waved as I went past... They did not wave back...

Hahaha

My wife said I'm probably on a list now and next time I go back they'll be watching me even closer.

We'll see. I say, "Let them watch."

Now that's funny!

It is a good story and I'm glad you shared it.

I saw someone stopped in the Knightdale Wally World parking lot ( for a big screen TV) by a yellow vested employee with some sort of darth vadery scanner. Yes, they had bought it but Sam Waltons minions still had to scan it with the red beam tool.

We can have all the freedom we seize !

The solution is simple. Just dont shop there anymore. They've already proven their disdain for the 2A and therefore I dont need to shop them for anything ever again. I have one less than a mile from my front door and will drive 5 miles past them to get identical items from Food Lion, Advance auto, or a half dozen small business that need my money and like my patronage

The Wilmington WM was doing that last time I was there with my daughter.

Somewhat in their defense, lots of high dollar merchandise walks out in a buggy. Some out of town mini thugs walk out with TV's and other stuff all the time. I'm just surprised it took this long to do it.
The big box retailer's have brought this on themselves by not stopping or pursuing these vermin. They pass the cost on to the consumer.

They treated you like a criminal so you acted just like a criminal would have. There's already a thread on this though.

If you don't like the way they do things you shouldn't go there.
Please tell me how paying money for merchandise and courteously walking out with my new property is "acting just like a criminal".

Next, you'll be telling us how many firearms is too many firearms for a responsible person to own.

I am unaware of any law saying you have to stop. But if they don't like it they can always issue you a ban to which I'd say thank you.
I looked it up months ago. No laws broken.

They are nicely asking to see the receipt. I am nicely saying no.

If you are a member of a club, like Costco or Sam's, then you agreed to the receipt check. If you say no to them then they can cancel your membership, but Walmart has no such ability.

Their house their rules.
I guess next you'll be saying that property owners don't have rights.

What are the rules? WM doesn't make you sign anything prior to entering their store that says you have to show them a receipt for goods purchased upon exiting. Yeah, they can ban him but they'd have to ban a lot of people over this silliness, so I don't see that happening.

I always tell them no too and it usually stops there. If the two employees in the OP's post really thought he stole something, then they should have just called the police instead of following him outside.

They literally tried to detain one of my friends at the Statesville Walmart and were threatening to call the cops as he was walking out. He kept on going.

Someone needs to really push this and sue for a nice payday. They have no right to detain you.

Also, STOP SHOPPING AT WALMART. They have crapped on local farmers and gun owners.

I just keep walking and tell them to come along and they can check it while I’m walking. I spend enough time standing in line or looking for someone when I need them.
Yeah, and then they try to get you to check out your own crap by only opening 1 line to sell cigarettes and everyone else gets to scan and bag thier own crap. If you don't trust me to do it, don't try to make me. Another reason I haven't been shopping there anymore.

This is such a “ ‘Merica” thread

- I showed them commie freedom hating minimum wage fools who’s boss! ‘Merica!

or

- That jerk just walked out. Where have people’s manners gone? It’s a shame, but I guess that’s ‘Merica these days.

Either way, you’d be right.

Is this one of those times where you are allowed to say, "OK, Boomer!"?

The fact that they even need to check your receipt tells me that they’ve done a poor job of designing their check out. If you can’t verify that people going through your checkout lanes paid for everything and only 40-100ft later still paid for everything, you probably need to re-engineer the process rather than treat your customers like potential criminals.

I too simply smile and say “no thanks” when/if they ask for a receipt at the door, just out of principal. I wish they would accuse me of shoplifting or call the police. They have much bigger things to be concerned with.

I've been trying to figure out how to say that without cursing.

Their house, their rules.

And what would you have done had they put hands on you? You're carrying and you gave them a reason to mess with you. Not smart IMO.

Well, I certainly would not have drawn down on Walmart employees for putting hands on me. I would have waited for a cop to come. Then, I'd let him/ her see the receipt. I wasn't in a hurry.

In that case you can probably press charges for battery and the WM worker will likely be fired. Almost every major retailer has a policy against using any physical force to prevent shoplifting.

Just imagine if you weren't shoplifting.

Actually had a case of this once and the woman filed cross warrants. The trial took two days of district criminal court and ended with a settlement.

Want to hear something scary. Walmart statesville has a former PD Officer working LP who was so stupid he got fired. It takes a lot of stupid to get fired from the local PD.

I hear ya. It was just a funny story that happened to me today. I hoped other people would think it was funny too.
Had this conversation just the other night.
Wife made us go into walmart the other night. On the way in they were checking receipts of people heading out and wife was saying it was dumb, and that she's more than happy to walk past a line of people showing receipts and just say "no thanks" when they ask to see hers too. <3 <3 <3 Also, the cops were walking in at the same time as us to deal with a junkie lady sitting in the security room. I'm guessing they didn't catch her by her receipt, but that's not the point here.

Also, the walmart folks got grumpy that I was looking over the gun counter and at ammo prices after 8pm, because they had already shut the gun counter down for the night and it's THE LAW that they can't sell after that...

I've never shown a receipt at a walmart or a best buy all the years they've been doing it - taking a similar approach as others have mentioned - Them: "I need to see your receipt" | Me: "sorry, i just paid right in front of you. it's my stuff in my bags now." One day I kind of yelled at a grumpy old man who was giving me lip about it - but it's because I was carrying about 500rds of ammo in one hand and a case of beer in the other. I wasn't stopping to show a stupid receipt considering how much work I had to go through just to get my stuff in the first place!

As for them PHYSICALLY detaining you... that would be funny. I was one time physically stopped from walking out the door at a Sam's Club. The lady asked to see my receipt and I said I didn't remember consenting to that in my membership agreement, and I'd wait while they looked at the agreement to show me... the big fat manager guy came out and got in my way, refused to show me anything, and just kept demanding to see my receipt. I tried to go around him and he stepped in front of me and bounced me back with his big fat gut. At that point I told him to call the police or show me what I wanted to see, because he was illegally detaining me and had just engaged in battery against me. he realized he was very much in the wrong and said he needed to get a membership agreement from the service desk (i politely followed instead of walking through door he stepped away from - i was genuinely asking a question and I wanted an answer), then he read through it and said "right here!" - and before his finger could touch the paper my receipt was out for him to review that it had all the right stuff on it.
I'm fair that way.
However, I did still call HIS boss and put in a complaint about his attitude, the detainment, and the battery - got some really nice gift cards, and then never saw him again. I asked for none of it except for him to talk about the dude's way of answering customer questions about membership, but I still took all of it with a smile and a big "thank you". I probably could have sued and won...

Take a page out if the liberals play book and start posting on social media about how you are emotionally upset you are at being treated like a criminal just because you didn't have a bagged item. Surely you must now have PTSD due to being accosted as you left the store with merchandise that you had to scan yourself and pay for. Come on, you cant be the only one that feels harrassed by the yellow shirts of Walmart.

I do the same thing. I just keep on going. They can’t and won’t touch you unless they suspect you of consealing merchandise.

Considering that a shoplifter was just shot and killed in a Chester, SC Walmart, I don't think I'll be shopping there for this issue to even come up.

The only time they give me a problem is when it's absolutely the most inconvenient point in my day. Last time I was asked I had just carried a 50lb bag of dog food to the register and was headed out the garden section. A little old woman at least 80 and I'm walking out literally receipt in hand on top of bag on shoulder. I just said it's up here and I'm not putting this down and kept walking.
