If you were looking for an AR with the following specs, what would you look at?

16"
Flat top
12"+ M-Lok handguard
Mid length or rifle length gas system

I was looking at getting a pair of Stag 15 Tacitcals, but it appears the mid length gas system is no longer an option.

Thank you in advance.

For $1000, I'd build a hell of a nice one. I think my last build came in around $800, probably much less but I can't remember.

Aero lower with CMMG parts kit (plus BAD 45* safety that I run on all of my ARs)
Aero upper
BA Hanson 14.5" barrel, SF brake/suppressor mount (already had the mount)
Vltor A5 kit and Imod stock
AMD 14" M-lok rail

ETA: And an adjustable gas block for suppressor use. Still under $800

Oh lawd, here we go. So if you don't want to build....

Colt LE6920. $1,000 leaves you enough for gun, MLOK rail, irons, and nice furniture
Barely used BCM. They are all over AR15.com
Sionics

If you want to build, or are local to Raleigh and want me to build one for you, you can easily buy nice parts for a 16" midlength with A5 lower setup and have money for a nice trigger and barrel. @MikeDawg46L 's list could have damn near been created by me. It's a good platform.

He said he wanted a mid length or rifle gas system correct?

Likely a typo. With a 16" he's getting Mid or Carbine length.

Rifle length system are not doable on 16" guns? I thought they were out there, although not common.

Sure it’s doable ... if I remember right Carbine gas length is 7” ... mid is 9” ... rifle is 12” ... I just don’t remember an off the shelf type 16” barreled AR having a rifle length system. Now I can order a 16” barrel from several companies with a rifle length gas port for a custom build but they are also pretty much a “to order” item and not cheap ... $250plus barrels.

ive owned a dozen and still own too many but my next AR will be a JP. I shot one at the range about a year ago with low mass system and their brake. With 55 grain bullets, the gun did not move. It was like smoking crack or so I'm told. I think you could buy a PSA for around $300 or $400 and buy the JP parts and have one helluva gun for $1000. I may go that route.

I don't see a lot of rifle length 16" barrels, but they are out there.
But intermediate length is very popular in 3gun and practical rifle matches (between mid and rifle length).

Odin makes this one:

The Stretch 16 is very popular. Very nice barrel.

I believe Lidja, Noveske, and others make them as well.

Special ops Tactical (dumb name) has the Siphon barrels which are interesting, in that they have an angled gas port. So the 16" is a rifle length, but the gas port angles back a lot which apparently gets you best of both wolds: rifle softness and mid reliability/dwell time. I'd like to try one of these, but don't know anybody who has.

Here you go. Aero has 20% off their complete uppers this weekend:
16" midlength in black with 15" MLOK $355: https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m4...-5-56-mid-length-barrel-atlas-s-one-handguard
Order one of the Toolcraft BCGs I just posted about in the hot deal section: $74
Your favorite charging handle (Raptor Ambi maybe?) $60
Allocate $250 to build you a NICE Aero lower

That's under $750 before irons. You could forgo irons and probably find a used Aimpoint Pro that's in perfect condition, with mount, and be under $1,000
