Has anyone made hunting rounds with 155gr xtp? I recently picked up a glock model 40 and plan on using as side arm deer and hog hunting. The only hollow points I have on hand are 155gr xtp. I’ve got 800x, blue dot, hs6, power pistol, and unique to load as far as powders go. My Hornady manual says hs6 and/or #7 will get the highest velocities at 1400-1450 FPS. I’ve got a LabRadar so I can play around and see what real world numbers I get, just trying to get some insight from someone that’s been down this road. I’m not apposed to buying a different bullet if that will help (as long as I can find them in stock).

With over 30 years as a handgun hunter,, I'd suggest a heavier bullet in that caliber for the critters you mentioned. Deer are different critters from hogs, and a lightweight bullet in a tough hog won't do much.
PERSONALLY,, if I were to use a 10mm for hunting,, I'd START with a 180 grn bullet,, but that's JMO.

I just checked and the only lead bullets I have on hand are 180 and 165gr.
I ordered some of these I’ll play around with the 180gr I’ve got until the new bullets ship.

I’ll second that! For hog I’d use a 180 grain jacketed solid. For deer a 180 jhp should do. Also I’d use a slower burning powder for that longer barrel.

I just ordered some bullets from midway since I got impatient waiting on the first order from rim rock. I’m going to load some next weekend and chrono them and do some kind of jack leg penetration tests.

I’m going to load some and ladder test with x800, longshot, blue dot, and power pistol. I will load some with large pistol primers, small pistol, and small rifle and go from there. image.jpg

Blue Dot has delivered pretty good speed in my 10mm loadings through a MP5/10mm clone, 11.2 under 180 FMJ's averaged 1499 FPS.
On the milder side I've run Unique at 8.0 under 165 FMJ's that averaged 1390 FPS in the same gun.

Small hogs aren't hard to kill, I've dropped them with 9mm 147 JHP subsonic reloads before. I was shooting a full auto gun so that may have helped.;)

Curious to see what you come up with.

I've got a few boxes of the Underwood 200gr hard cast stuff for a trip later this year into bear territory as they're reportedly for use on large/dangerous stuff. Saw a gel test on youtube, they went through two gel blocks (36") and right out the back side.

I’m hoping to get similar penetration. Now I’m just thinking how I could test it and maybe find the bullet. I’ve never messed with gel I’ve always used plastic bottles filled with water.

In the 9x25 loads I made up with blue dot, the fireballs are impressive from a 5.5" barrel. Velocities weren't that good.

The only 200gr loads I've tried over the chronograph were a 200gr Nosler JHP over 8.0 and 8.2gr of longshot, worth ~1150 fps. Pretty boring which is probably why I gave up on that and switched to the 145gr (just for plinking).

I’m having a hard time finding load data to start with. My plan now is go off 200 gr xtp bullets and subtract 10% from starting load. I was planning on using small pistol, small rifle, and large pistol primers but I think instead it going to stick with lpp for now because I’ve got new starline large primer brass I will use for my hunting ammo once I find a load I like.
Longshot 5.1 gr
Power Pistol 5.4 gr
800x 5.4 gr
Blue Dot 6.2 gr

I have not tried any SPP 10mm brass (yet) but I can tell you from my experience with SPP 45acp, I use small magnum primers based on the results I have observed. I have used SRP in the small primer brass as well.

I like the 800x powder, makes 135gr scream out of a 6 inch barrel!!

Im still disappointed they discontinued 800x.... :/

Im paying attention to this thread, seems like alot of potential data in the making!

This website is an amazing resource for 10mm loads.

I finally shot some of these over my chrono. 200 gr “Rim Rock Bullets” lead projectile, 9 grains of blue dot, federal small magnum pistol match primer, 1.260” I got right at 1178fps average. Brass had typical “glock bulge” but nothing alarming.
