I have a 3 inch magnum 1100 that won't cycle. I've changed the piston, the O ring, cleaned the gas port with the corresponding drill bit, cleaned every inch of the gun, inspected the recoil spring, the recoil spring tube, polished the chamber with 0000 steel wool as a last ditch effort, etc, etc. Nothing. I can fire the gun and it cocks itself but the bolt doesn't move that I can see. Can you smart people lend me some insight on this because I'm stumped.

The gun can’t cock itself without the bolt coming back. Look at extracted and ejector . Also have the shell feed system looked at as it should be jamming.
The extractor and ejector look fine. I did swap on a non magnum barrel I had lying around and it functions with that barrel, but a bit slower(drops the spent shell at your feet).

With the magnum barrel I turned the gun on its side and fired it looking at the bolt and it's not moving when I fire.

The cheap shotshells with the aluminum (or are they steel?) heads stick something awful in one of my 870s and and old Browning double auto. They won’t cycle in the auto.

Are you confident it isn’t the ammo?

I have an 1100. One problem I remember having was that the gas rings were put in wrong after cleaning. If they are upside down then it won't cycle. Other than that it sounds like you have checked just about everything. If it's not the gas rings being upside down, then I can only suggest for you to try contacting Remington or a local gunsmith about it. Also, what ammo are you using? We could only get it to run with buck and slugs at first because birdshot just didn't have enough power.

I'll try some fancy ammo. Full disclosure I sold this gun to a friend (I'm an 01 FFL) and sourced it for him. He brought it back saying it wouldn't fire and I'm not in the business of selling broke stuff so I told him I'd tinker with it a while.

If it’s an old 1100 ( mine was 1977 vintage), low brass will not cycle the action. Other than the gas rings installed upside down or o-ring is toast, the chamber is crusty or ammo with aluminum or steel instead of brass is your issue. Good luck!👍

I have a Remington 1100LT 20 3” magnum and it will not cycle any 2-3/4” shells. It will only cycle with 3 inch shells. The magnum barrels only have 1 gas port drilled into the barrel. Regular barrels have 2. You have to swap barrels if you want it to run properly with 2-3-4” shells. I can put a 2-3/4” barrel on and it’ll shot any shells I put in it

Over/under for the win every time for everything but self defense (maybe that to). Cold, rain, after cleaning, barrel swaps, etc.. Fires every time.

Carry on.

1100 magnum? My guess is like what Crankbait said above. Magnum bbl will need magnum or high brass shells. I have a 1187 that runs anything I put in it , 2&3/4 or 3" but it was designed to do that. I had a 1100 20ga that was brand new and would not run Remington target loads. Would run about anything else. I thought it was ironic that Remington shotgun wouldnt run Remington shells but would shoot anything else.

Winchester bulk shells wouldn't work in mine either. Federal, Rio and Estate no problems.

I’ve had pump guns that the Winchester wouldn’t cycle in. Seriously. The aluminum case heads would make extraction extremely difficult.

Will it cycle with slugs or buckshot?

Try some 1 1/4 ounce field loads. For whatever reason most of those are loaded to fairly high velocity. Between the shot charge and the amount of powder I imagine that will cycle it. Say something that’s between 12-1400 fps. I imagine some of the high velocity 2 3/4” steel loads with 1 1/8 oz or 1 1/16 oz of shot running between 1400-1550 fps will cycle it as well.

A friend has a pristine older 1100 Ducks Unlimited commemorative. We shot a bunch of skeet/trap back in November using nothing but cheap Federal and Estate 7 1/2 shot from Walmart. His 1100 never had an issue.

I’m pretty sure the Duck Unlimited comes in 2-3/4 inch chamber. So they should shoot what you are talking about. The OP has a 3” chamber that won’t shoot 2-3/4” shells and that’s normal

Like I said earlier…old 3” mag would cycle 2 3/4 high brass shells but not low brass…all the new 3” guns these days handle both easily.
