Picked up a Volk wheel a while back
Recently got a free Ferrari Challenge pirelli tire
Wheel is 10" wide, tire, at the beads, is 12" wide - can a tire shop put that on for display purposes?

Im not seeking advice on if it's safe or not - it'll NEVER be installed on a car like this, I just want to keep both and they happen to be the same diameter, thus, saving space...and looking pretty cool (hopefully)

I ran 13.5” wide tires on 8” wide rims for years. No issues.

Much less chance of curb rash when the tire is wider. 😎

I see far too many people running wheels that are too wide (or tires that are too narrow) for their setup.

FWIW…your title confused me for a bit. Wheel and rim are the same thing. But I figured it out. 🤓

Currently have 12.5” wide tires on 9.5” wide wheels, no issue. You don’t want to be part of the stance crew stretching tires on wide rims, then we’ll have to question your intelligence.

I saw some of those on a car the other day. stendo-rims riding at 15deg camber
it looked ridiculous

Yep, just like magazine and clip are the same thing.

Easiest way to understand it is to look at a spoked motorcycle wheel. You have the hub ( inner part ), then the spokes which connect to the rim ( outer part ). The rim is a part of the wheel.

I know, the current generation thinks it all the same but I sold aftermarket wheels for 30+ years. To me it's one of those "fingernails on a chalkboard" kind of thing.

Rant off.

What kind of VW did you pick up? I'm sure there was a thread but I'm Swiss cheese brained remembering everything these days.

Once upon a time there was a tire store in Gastonia with a big sign on the side of their building that said "We sell wheels and rims". I always wanted to stop and ask them to explain the difference to me.

the difference is easy - wheels are what normal people buy. rims are what you get to be pimpstyle.
