Hey, folks. I thought it might be fun to put an old dinged up milsurp slide on my cheapo GI 1911. Are such slides available? I understand they used to be, but don't see too many on e.g., Gunbroker. Anyone have any leads as to a source? Is this a fool's errand?

Sorry if the question is a dumb one.

I'm not sure of a source anymore as I haven't been looking around for years. I bought several years ago to make some guns matching. I probably have some left over but I'm sure they won't be cheap. From memory I have a couple Colt's and a Remington Rand slide left over.

Your best bet would be looking for someone who got a 1911 from the CMP that came with a Cage Code GI Slide and Barrel form the 70's - 90's and is looking to correct it. I saw some of those on the CMP forums go for $200 - $300 for a complete slide with barrel.

I've got a Colt 1911 made 1918, US Army, but the frame is buggered up...was cracked at one time and somebody welded it back. To dangerous to shoot, even tho I did before noticeing the damage. So, I've been looking for a frame if anyone comes upon one for sale.

If you don't find one before October, plan to go to the following show in October:

There is a guy there named Eric and he has been on the last row the last three shows and usually gets 3 - 6 tables depending on how much stuff he brings. He has a ton of 1911 parts and has everything divided up by WWI and WWII and by manufacture. I have bought several parts off of him. He was there last week at the last show and picked up a nice General Shaver magazine for my Remington Rand. He sometimes has complete guns and also has tons of carbine, Garand, 1903 stuff.

Why would a cracked frame make it dangerous to shoot? The frame doesn't suffer pressure stresses. That falls onto the slide and barrel.

Where is it racked?

Its cracked downward from the slide stop hole, and the forward part of the frame has a slight bend. The frame is not a Colt....no name on it.

I got this from an old friend (both of us being in super senior category) paying a good price for it without much examination. The slide is pretty nice tho, old reblue I think.

If you ever have the time, would apprec you looking at it.

Been a long time since I've been over; you may not remember me, but over the years you checked out a lot of Norinco's for me.

Apprec the info. Thanks.

Sure.

You still jettin' around on that scooter?

Have had to gear down from 2 to 3 wheels in my dotage but rode this past Fri and Sat. Went to Rowan Co. gun show this morn and came home with a full size Rock Is. 1911 in 9mm. Shot 2 full mags of reloads just for function and it ran perfectly. Replaced rod with a standard plug and guide and shot few more for function. Hate fooling with full size rods if I don't have to.

Will try your old email to work out a time. Look forward to seeing you.
