So I am considering adding a Stan Chen magwell to a Colt 70 custom build. I am really interested in the Stan Chen Gen 2 which has an integrated mainspring. The magwell and the mainspring function as a single piece. They do not add any width or length to the pistol. The bottom of the frame is modified to accommodate the magwell. You also have to slightly modify the grips as well. Mr. Chen sells modified grips and I believe that VZ also sells modified grips. The only other magwell that similar is the HEinie XX Magwell but that one has to be screwed into the frame.

So my question is does anyone run one of these magwells? What are your thought and impressions. Was it worth the cost to retain the original profile of the pistol.

I've always run Smith and Alexander magwells on my 1911's. No mods needed, don't have to sweat the resale, etc. Lotta purests out there, if it was a Citadel, probably not an issue.... Nice colt....well.... I dunno.

Gun is a full house custom it will not be sold so that is not really an issue. If for some reason it did get sold the magwell would have to be part of the attraction.

And most customs guns have one anyway, so I'd dooooooeeeeeeeeet. I like that front strap on that Springer up there. yum.

Unfortunately not my gun. It is an example of Stan Chens work. He calls it Protac checkering.
