turbochargers!!!!

I either want the 5.0 coyote or the new 3.0 Diesel!!

you know the mpg numbers for that diesel have to be better than ram's eco diesel! I'm sure that was their benchmark.

I think it's turbocharged? I like the idea in a way, more power, less gas, lighter weight. I also like 460s and 390s so I'm torn. Chances are I'll never buy a new truck anyway. I like em old without computers and fixable.

It's the only thing that would get me back into a f-150 after the ecobust.

Mightyox04 I'd be real concerned about the longevity of those motors. The turbo 4cyls in the Chevy Malibus and Impalas are having a hell of a problem with cylinders melting. I've got a feeling there won't be many of them hitting 200K.

What you really want is the 5.0 "Road Runner" engine out of the Boss 302. 'Cause it's just a little bit better than the Coyote...

twin turbos

The problem that I see with turbos is that there are way too many people who don't realize that you've got to cool the things down after you've pushed them hard or you're going to coke the bearing from the heat frying the oil if you shut them down too quickly. And that ain't good.

because if there's anything Ford is good at....it diesel's....lol. Please. The ad should say: Ford adds the F150 to it's long list of trucks in need of major repairs.

Ford and diesels make me run the other way! Old 7.3 is only one I might consider and thats a big might!

And the 7.3 was an International engine.

Navistar actually manufactured power choke until 2010. Fomoco took over in 2011 to present. So that crappy 6.0 and 6.4 is an International also. 6.7 is the only power choke only designed by Ford.

The modern diesel engine has had all its performance advantages over gasoline choked out of it by emissions regulations. IMO it offers nothing to justify the massive cost premium it commands.

But good for them, I hope that at least this 10 speed transmission works out well for them.

Better open your wallet when you make your choice! My dad just bought a new crew cab 5.0 F150 last week. Listed for $55000 and change. Put a diesel in it and add 5-7k

We have a winner. I'm glad I'm not the only one who see this. That's why the 7.3 was such a good performer. No emissions. We'll see how this 3.0 diesel works. Hopefully they did more long term endurance testing on it, than they did the 6.0. Hopefully cleaned the block castings of sand better also. I bleed Ford blue, still can't beat a Cummins.....

The 2.7L is listed at 325hp, same as the 5.4L Triton in the '08 I traded last year. The 3.5L in my '15 is 365hp, and gets 20mpg on the highway.

I'd give the 2.7 a couple of years to develop, but the 3.5 is a solid engine.

A very good friend is a Diesel Mechanic. It's all he's done for 35 years.
He's worked on 'em all.
I'm a Dodge guy, he's a Chevy guy. We go back & forth ragging each other.
And he'll tell you, the best diesel motor ever to be put in a vehicle is the Cummins. No contest.

I have a new 2016 Dodge Promaster Ramvan for work. The city..the little one. It's a great van I love it. 25mpg.
It has the 9 speed transmission, and it can be enormously aggravating. It's lazy as hell between 1st and 2nd, (as you try to get out of the intersection argh).. and it's always trying to throw you into the next upper gear. That may be fine where it's flat, but not good when it always tries to put you in 7th going up a steep hill. You can pull it out of that into manual and choose your upper gear to stay in, which I'm always doing. As soon as someone invents a chip that reprograms the tranny, that's the first thing I'm gonna do.
Don't be all cooed about these 100 speed transmissions. They're not all cookies and cream and have drawbacks that you need to learn how to live with.

Ditto the 5.9 Cummins

For me, that's a detraction. No way I'd buy one.

Why not? The 3.5ecoboost had been out since 2011. It's a pretty solid motor.

A new engine AND transmission, no thanks. That seems like a nightmare after the warranty is up.

It won't be a new tranny. The '17s have a 10 speed.

trcubed I just got a great deal on '16 3.5L with the closeout sales that were going on. Love this thing so far! The 3.5 has been out since 2011 and is a pretty solid motor.

6.0÷2=3.0 = #hastasuck.

Although my 6.7 is a monster and even better since I deleted it. I'll never go back to gas.

So you don't actually own a new 6.7 PS I take it. I may eat my words in 5 years but so far my 2015 Power Smack is the most powerful truck I've ever owned and I've had a few.
Tell me exactly how my truck has had its performance choked.

I just had a look at the Ford website. Best I can figure the 6.7L diesel is a $9000 option in the Super Duty. It's my opinion that the diesel, as it comes from the factory with all OEM equipment intact, doesn't offer anything close to $9000 worth of advantages over the gasoline engine. I'm sure it's great, but $9000 worth?

Ditto on the 6.7 being a monster. Haters gonna hate.

So....You are saying you don't actually have one. I have one. It will pull hell off the hinges and leave the devil at the gate while getting 16-22 mpg. I can assure you that none of the gasoline options can deliver that performance and fuel economy.

But....But....Emissions stuff!
yeah Dodge and Chevy don't have all that stuff on their engines......

Oh wait! They have the same stuff on their engines!

As I understand it from the diesel guys in our fleet department, since the DEF was added to the system it freed them up to take the bridle off.

Everyone is playing by the same rules on emissions. I have noticed there are a lot of diesel haters out there. Most of them don't know very much about a diesel. I don't know much about diesels, but I work with guys that do. I have rode in or driven about 6 diesels here at work. I am not particularly impressed with a Dodge.

My 6.0 is a straight beast of a truck. I've had to go through the normal 6.0 issues like others but power wise its no slouch, especially running a race tune. That said, it'll be the last diesel I'll own unless I get the urge to throw a 4bt cummins in something. Its high maintance and I just don't tow enough to justify the costs involved.

10sp automatic... ugh... I really really miss the simplicity of a 351w hooked up to a good ole C6.

Unless you pull a big trailer all the time, I'd go with gas. You can buy a lot of gas for $9k dollars. Plus, oil changes are way more expensive on diesels too. Anyone ever figured out how long it takes to make up the $9k difference?

For 99% of the people that buy "light duty" trucks these days this motor will be perfect.

And for those that are putting it down what was the last heavy duty thing you used your light duty truck for?

Most of us that use our trucks to do heavy duty things like put a 3800 lbs ramex in the bed or tow trailers etc switched to the 200 or 300 series years ago.

If I could just drive myself back and forth to an office during the week and haul weekend project materials or a new fridge on the weekends I'd buy one in a hot minute.
