Is anybody else shooting the CMP Eastern Games Vintage Military/JCG matches at Butner this week? After years of unforced mental errors, poor strategic choices and weather conditions beyond my ability to adjust, I finally broke my glass ceiling, shot my highest ever score and earned a bronze medal with my Garand - despite having a sixth round miss during standing unsupported. Aside from the miss, I shot the best, and most disciplined, standing string I have ever shot.IMG_20220423_181339.jpg

If you love vintage military rifles and meeting lots of great folks, I highly recommend shooting the GSSM matches at Butner.

They didn't have any rifles or ammo to bring to the competitor sale. But they did have a big box of mostly WW2 dated (1943 and 1944) leather slings with brass dogs and intact keepers. They were in pretty good shape to be 80 or more years old. Depending on condition, they ranged from $90 - $105. There were also 2 or 3 MILSCO reproduction slings in very good shape for $50. I'd rather they had rifles and ammo, but it was cool to dig through those and find one to match my "mostly correct" 1943 Springfield.

Yep was a fun time..finished up the weekend taking 2nd in Vintage Sniper with my partner today.

Now back to the dungeon to load more ammo.
Congrats! I saw a video, that I thought might be you, of you powering through a misfeed in rapid prone. If so, nice work!

First round of the rapids and I got a torn case rim stuck in the chamber and round #2 jammed behind it. Cleared it sticking the live round in my mouth..pulling theclip out and ramming the bolt back onto the case and it extracted that time. Single loaded #2 then did the full clip reload. Got all rounds off with about 4 seconds to spare. Still got an 89...talk about pressure!

Yikes!!! That is doing some good work! There is no way I could've recovered from that. I only cranked out a 91 on rapid, but I shot it WAY too fast. I must have had 20 to 30 seconds left. I felt like an idiot sitting there that long knowing I probably could have scored a 95 or better if I had just slowed down a bit.
