22 pistol recommendations

I've got a Beretta 92 conversion. I can't give it high marks because rimfire ammo doesn't like the lightened hammer or hammer springs on my 92. Lots of restrikes going on. But it does launch .22 sometimes. It's kind of fun when it does.

Another vote for the M&P 22. Get you that and the CMMG 22 bolt conversion for you AR (assuming you have one) and you can have fun on the cheap (sort of cheap).

Trust I did that yesterday. First time with the CMMG kit and man was it fun not worrying so much about cost.

Probably the voice of the old and infirm (me), but are you stuck on a semi-auto solution or consider a revolver? If so, and not knowing exactly what your budget is, a nice SW 10-shot 617 might be hard to beat, but again, revolvers might be off the table for you. If so, I've been reacquainting myself with Browning's little 1911-22 as of late and thoroughly enjoying it.

Yeah I’d prefer a semi auto, mainly cause that’s what I carry and it’s more practical personally. Practice like you play basically.

that AR conversion plus a binary trigger.... doesn't save much but it's the most fun use of a binary yet.

I've read good things about the TX22 but haven't seen one in real life. You should get one and report back to the forum! :)

An M&P22 compact is my choice for an all around 'shoots anything' 22 auto loader. Been very happy with mine in spite of the dumb safeties (which are tolerable only because it's a range toy and not a carry gun).

For a trainer though, a G44 is impossible to beat (if you EDC a glock anyway). It's so much like a G19 and fits all the holsters and mag pouches and has the same crappy glock trigger/sights/controls that you can basically run the same drills the same way with it and treat it like a centerfire pistol. That's a huge advantage if you want to train on the cheap.

I have two M & P 22C's one with over 50,000 rounds through it. They shoot just about anything I put into them. Only two problems I had with it was the roll pin was walking out and the firing pin broke around 40,000 rounds. Smith fixed both with no charge to me. The picture is the one I bought for my wife.

You will never go wrong with the Ruger Mk series, nor the Browning. Have several and are great fun to shoot. Have 3 of the Ruger SR22 and PREFER those to any of the other plinkers out there. Never had a problem with any ammo EXCEPT Thunderbolt.

That said, I recently bought one of the SIG 365 CO2 BB pistols which are an absolute hoot to shoot.

There are so many 22 pistols out there today. It's difficult to pick just one. My favorite is a Hi-Standard. But Ruger 22s are about as good as you can get. My Government model I'd dead on accurate. And has never failed .Also have a Browning slabside Buckmark that's an awesome pistol to.. Find one that fits your hand and try to look at the sights see if you can get a good sight picture and it just feels good in your hand . I have never really fount one I didn't like

Don't know what all pistols you already have, but the Advantage Arms .22 Conversions are available for a lot of pistols and work very well in my experience. I highly recommend them..

I want to throw my 2c as I shot Taurus TX22 today, Browning Buckmark last weekend, and Ruger Mark IV several weeks back. All of them are great guns.

The Buckmark and the Mark IV had much better groups, but the TX22 is not that bad either.

All three of them failed miserably with one brand of problematic ammo. All worked well very with everything else.

The huge advantage of the TX22 is the magazine capacity - 16 rounds. Then there are extensions. 19 to 21 rounds (loading does not always work to the max) is very fun.:)
There are extensions for the Marks, but far even from the stock 16 rounds of the TX22.

For aftermarket support, the Mark's are the kings - anything you may want is done by someone.
The aftermarket support is most limited for the Buckmark.
For the TX22 there are some good upgrades, but I expect more to come.

Ergonomics very much depends on the hands of the shooter.
For me, even I liked the TX22 most, the very strongly pronounced hump was annoying.
There are a lot of strong opinions for the regular Marks vs. the 22/45s. I find them both fitting *my* hand very well.

The TX22 is a very lightweight gun - polymer frame, aluminum slide.
The Buckmarks and the Marks have endless variants, some lighter some heavier. To be honest I do not know the variants. I shot the gun in front of me, and I enjoyed it. Someone more knowledgeable probably could write a Ph.D. thesis on the subject.

And then someone suggested airsoft guns.
In other times one could dismiss that as some joke that missed the spot.
Today... Well, to be honest, I am seriously considering that option.
Thanks and kudo to @wvsig for the suggestion, as I know nothing in the airsoft world.

I have one of the new Beretta conversion kits and have no problems with light strikes using assorted junk ammo in my 92A1 with a 14-pound hammer spring (compared to 20-lb stock or 16-lb D springs).
