So, which 22LR for direct thread use on a MkIII 22/45 and 10/22? This Silencer Shop kiosk approval window might be too much to resist. Not looking for top of the line, just functional.

Recently picked up a YHM Phantom and a DA Mask…either one of those will work well for you.

The YHM will definitely be less expensive than the DA, but don’t let that fool you…it is a great suppressor.

Running CCI 40gr subs (1050 FPS) through my TX22 with the Phantom….I can belch louder.

Any will work well on 22/45 but I recommend one that will be easy to clean. My DA Mask fits the bill. Not sure what is as easy to clean but lower cost.

I do have a threaded barrel for my 10/22 but it is makes more noise than I like because of the super sonic crack. I have not tried it with sub-sonic ammo. Not sure it would cycle with sub-sonic ammo.

I love shooting my Rossi lever action 22 with sub-sonic ammo or 22 shorts and a suppressor. It is hearing safe without ear pro and sorta sounds like an air rifle. An 22LR rifle that requires you to load the next round will make less noise than the 10/22.

It is really hard to go wrong with a .22 can from any of the reputable manufacturers. .22LR is probably the most satisfying cartridge to suppress because it can really be "movie quiet" or even better than movie quiet (no pew). My first NFA thing of any kind was a $200 Costal Gun Passport .22 silencer. It is hardly what I would call modern or well designed. However, it is so quiet on my Savage FV-SR using subsonic ammo that the striker falling and the bullet hitting the paper are louder than the gun shot. After thousands of rounds on that rifle and a variety of other .22s it is still running strong.

In addition to that .22 can I have a Bowers Bitty, an OSS RAD22, and a Rugged Oculus. I'm happy with all of them and they all work well. The Bitty is also really cute.

It will….gimme a few minutes at my “range” and I’ll post up a couple vids.

So I pick my suppressor, pick my shop, check out, then go to the kiosk for finger prints etc. missing anything? Thinking I’ll just do individual, don’t have anyone I’d share it with.

I avoid aluminum baffles. Otherwise pretty much all the 22 cans work well. rugged oculus and dead air mask are good choices although there are tons of other great ones too.

Trust is my preference otherwise it is very difficult for ownership to eventually pass to family member. A trust is easy to setup and worth it.

I'd consider the Hanson Bros. Vidar 22, it looks be a clone of the AAC Element 2. Given how good the E2 is the Vidar should sound good and the price is competitive.

Full disclosure - I own a Element 2 but I've never handled of shot the Vidar, just thinking out loud here.

I have a Sparrow and they are popular (or were in 2018 when I started the process) but I DON'T recommend it due to very obvious first round pop. Other than that no problems but there are better cans (as mentioned above).

Anybody here have or used a Ruger silent 22 can? Local gun shop has one i am looking at getting $429 out the door
Just used one a few days ago, on a couple of 10/22 a buddy has. I thought it was in the same class as my Mask, if just a slight bit more first-round pop and a bit more 'tone' by comparison. Neither of us was wearing any ear protection and it most assuredly wasn't needed.

I also liked that it did not change PoI. I used it to ring a 3" steel plate at 100 yards freehand with a 9x Leupold BDC reticle having never fired that setup before.

Thanks for that reply. I think i may get it as i am pretty sure my son would have a blast with a suppressed 15-22 and i also have a savage mkii that would be fun also. I would more than likely use standard velocity ammo in the savage to keep it quiet. Is using buld automatch or mini mags heating safe in that can? Because i wear a hearing ais and don’t want to risk more damage to my hearing.

I would not use anything that had a muzzle velocity rated for more than ~1100 in a rifle. I doubt it matters on a pistol since even minimags don't go supersonic in 6" or less.

Now, remember that the action makes noise, too. How quiet do you want to be?

CCI Standard (1070fps) is widely available even at walmart and under 10cpr ... and in bulk is around 7cpr. So, it's not a cost or availability issue.

I take it that in a 15-22 the action is louder than the gunshot with standard velocity ammo suppressed
Here’s my 15-22 with and without the can. Can’t remember for sure, but most likely Blazer bulk pack. Considering it’s an indoor range, I’d say the action is the loudest part.

Now, to be clear, that’s a 4.5” barrel. But if it’s standard velocity ammo and staying subsonic out of a longer barrel, the results should be similar…probably even quieter.

The tone can still vary significantly

A Mini Mag may not go supersonic from a short pistol barrel but the crack or sound at your ear will still not be as pleasant as a standand or subsonic round

Some folks avoid aluminum suppressors due to suppressor rating or ease of cleaning generally not as easy as a SS suppressor, however I really enjoy the Aluminum can I’ve got. Never had an issue maintaining it, extremely light especially on pistol hosts, and very quiet.

My preferred round is the CCI Subsonic HP, 1050fps. Accurate on paper, functional on small game, and quiet through rifles and pistols.

Like it was mentioned, any of the reputable brands out there are good to go:

DA Mask
Rugged Oculus (Made in SC)
Griffin Armament Resistance or Checkmate
Innovative Arms (smaller company but made in SC) Slingshot

I have a Rugged Oculus, what is different with it vs the others, is that is modular, and you can make it shorter. In the short config on a rifle, its till hearing safe, on a pistol, not so much.

Dead Air Mask, TBAC Takedown... doesn't seem like much difference. Just avoid aluminum baffles, and go with a major company.

Has anyone bought as an individual from Silencer Shop? Anything to watch for in the process?

Oculus is in stock for $399.

I have, several times. My Oculus came from there actually. No issues, it was as smooth as a paper form 4 transfer could be (no efiled form 4s at the time).

I make a lot of 22 cans and Im pretty familar with all the major makers and how they put their stuff together. My personal opinion on .22 silencers is that you should avoid non serviceable cans AND any can that does not use stainless steel as a baffle material. i know all about opinions and how they resemble parts of the human anatomy but if you are a volume shooter, and you should be, get something that is cleanable by the harshest chemicals. Stainless.

Eye candy. Stainless core :)

I bought a Silencerco Warlock and pretty sure it uses alluminum baffles. I plan to clean it good after a few hundred rds and the. Put a light coat of grease on them to help make cleaning easier next time.

I have a Mask and an Oculus. Highly recommend either and would buy either again.

Already having two 22 cans has me eyeballing @wired creations closely.

Some people soak the baffles in DOT 5 brake fluid (silicone based) after cleaning to slow carbon buildup and make the next cleaning easier. A quart mason jar holds two sets of baffles and you can reuse the DOT 5 many times … it’s a purple tint and you’ll know when by clarity.

A bonus is the DOT 5 actually does “stick” to the metal and will not absorb moisture so it kinda id a rust/oxidation inhibitor. It is NOT a CLP but it does coexist nicely with them.

I did the DOT 5 brake fluid to my two Masks when I got them. One I warmed up and the other I just did room temperature.

I have a spectre II. Ive only taken it apart once and it was really dirty. Great suppressor though. Probably 5000 rds thru it

I have 2. Without a doubt the most fun you can have with a NFA item at a reasonable price for the can and ammo. My first is a Huntertown Arms. Don’t bother looking them up. Not that it’s a bad can, they closed up shop some time ago.

My second is the TBAC Takedown 22. I was torn between it and the Dead Air Mask. While went the TBAC, I don’t think you could go wrong with either. It will be an investment that you won’t regret.

Mine showed up at THSF last week. Just under $300 delivered. Looking forward to shooting with it after the wait…
