According to Osment, Red Cross is “currently only producing convalescent plasma from donations from individuals who are unvaccinated and have confirmed a previous symptomatic COVID-19 infection.”

Differing from the explanation provided on social media, which appeared to cryptically cite Red Cross’ own bureaucratic complications, the organization’s Senior Social Media Relations Manager explained to Valiant News that the reason they won’t use vaccinated blood for CCP is because the COVID-19 vaccine does not cover all the regions of the virus, nor do the vaccinations produce antibodies against other viral proteins.

In contrast, Osment explained that a natural COVID-19 infection will generate antibodies against the coronavirus spike protein and other viral proteins, while the vaccines only produce antibodies against the spike protein.

“This is because when an individual has been infected with a virus, they produce antibodies to multiple regions of a virus,” Osment said. “If a donor has had the COVID-19 vaccine, they will generate an antibody against the spike protein but not other viral proteins, which will only occur in the event of a COVID-19 infection.”

Honestly, this makes sense to me. The spike proteins of the current strains are different from the spike proteins the vax was/is supposed to produce.

That said, when you take the subset of people who donate blood products, and then the subset of them who are un-vaxxed AND have had a symptomatic infection...that seems like an unreliably small population of donors.

Absolutely, they would have MANY MANY more donors if employers/government didn't force that crap on everyone.

Pretty sure we on this forum discussed the benefits of natural infection causing antibodies against multiple antigens vs vaccine causing antibodies against a single highly variable antigen.... more than 18 months ago.
I think a lot of people who understood this stuff were trying to make that point but got called anti-vax and science deniers.
Listen... immunology was my worst subject in the health related -ology studies... but this is 101 level stuff.

I wonder if red cross is hiring... I could go back.
Is there a red cross on fort bragg? I'd hate not being able to take a gun with me... but i'd get by if they pay was right

I'm unvaxxed & have had the 'rona twice now, but am permanently DQ'd from donating blood- too much time in a country with potential BSE exposure.
i wonder if they'll start giving really good appreciation gifts for donating. I've also unvaxed and 2x... and i could use some nice presents every 56 days...
remember, it is illegal to sell blood. but you can be compensated for your time and trouble.
