Hi all,

I have a .357 lever gun with a threaded barrel and am planning to buy a linear compensator. I couldn't find one specifically for this caliber but contacted Kaw Valley and they recommended this one that's made for .45 acp/.40/10mm. Would there be any concerns putting that on my rifle given that it's technically larger than my bore?

It needs a silencer, and steady diet of .38s...😎

But that comp would be fine.

Yeah I'd like one of those as well...Right now I'm looking at like a $40 investment vs. a $500+ (stamp + can?) investment though. 😂 đŸ€‘

Since we're on the subject and from you and @frakncylons it seems like it's okay for the comp to be bigger but (of course) not smaller, would the same hold true for a silencer? If I have this lever gun and a .22 with threaded barrel could I use the same silencer on both? Is it even possible to find a .22 LR barrel with 5/8x28 threading or are they all 1/2x28?

It’s very common, yes.

Of course, there are a couple other things to think about. For example, you don’t want to send a high pressure 556 through a pistol rated 9mm can.

Thanks, did not realize that. I wonder why the guy from Kaw didn't mention it. However, my barrel threading is 5/8x24.
Actually .357 is slightly larger ... 0.357” (or 9.10mm) vs 0.355” (or 9.01mm) for the 9mm auto ... not much BUT with the muzzle blast of a Magnum cartridge the 5/8x24 threading and slightly larger bore of the .40SW comp is likely why it’s that route.

As long as the silencer was user-serviceable, it would be fine. I say that because you definitely want to be able to clean the baffles for a 22 can.

And in this case, you’d want a silencer that had the ability to swap to different thread pitch adapters. Since you’re most likely talking about a 9mm can for those two options, almost all of them will have the option to swap from 1/2-28 to 5/8-24.

This is the guy right here.

Def get a serviceable .22 can. My non serviceable SWR warlock weighs twice as much as it did when new on account of the lead build up. It’s still pretty good on a rifle but no longer comfortable to shoot on a pistol w/o ear pro.

SilencerCo says they be able to convert it to serviceable. fingers crossed.

And just for a little inspiration...

(not one you’d want to use on a 22LR host, but looks/works great on the .357/.38)

heyyy that's my rifle. What are your can/sling/mount/optic?
Silencerco Osprey 45
Bushnell Lil P
Henry Repeating Arms Receiver Scope Mount
Nohma Leather Buffalo Hide Leather sling
SOMA QD sling swivels

it now has a leather wrap on the lever, and a stock sleeve with a riser cushion

Here’s an indoor pic after the lever wrap, but I don’t seem to have a pic with the stock sleeve on my phone:

Not enough barrel thickness for .5x28?
Odd choice.
5/8-24 is bigger than .5x28...so it’s not a barrel thickness issue.

Plus, I don’t think you’d want 1/2-28 for .44/.45

I was referring to the other direction.
My Rossi 357 is threaded .5x28 and there isn't a lot of metal left. I worry about it snapping off if I smack the suppressor by accident.
(It's 16" so my only option is to add a permanent extension, F1 or rebarrel.)

I'm careful with it but it is definitely a concern.

I don't want .5x28 for 44?
Haven't you ever heard of swaging?
Damn newbies...think they know everything.
