Anyone have any experience with the .450 Marlin? It looks like it is identical to a .45-70 but it has a belt on the case like a .7mm Magnum. I was wondering if I could load this with dies for a .45-70. I don't think the belt would make any difference since the belt doesn't get sized anyway.

Isn't there a small (~.008") difference in diameter of the brass ahead of the belt when compared to the 45/70? It seems you would overwork the brass. Maybe I read the drawing wrong, it is early or late!

I bought 450 dies so I never tried it, though.

450 - Belt diamter = .532", diameter ahead of the belt is listed as .5121.

45/70 ahead of the rim is .505.

I think you are right, sizing with a 45/70 die would over-work the brass. I would not want to do that with a high-pressure cartridge like the 450 Marlin - 43.5k psi.

Having said that, if you already had a set of 45/70 dies, I think the only one you would need to buy for the 450M would be the sizing die. The expander, seater, and crimp dies should all work.
