Im gathering info on some future prospects, and am trying to figure out the feasibility of utilizing 350gr berry's RS and sierra 350gr jhp bullets that are already in use in reloading .50 beowulf, to load .50 AE.

Ive pulled some searches and dont get alot of useful info, and my books list little data for .50 AE.....

Anyone have any thoughts?

The only thing I have loaded in 50AE is the Speer 300 TMJ, and they worked fine. (TMJ bullets are thick plated). I would think the Berry's would work fine, just have to figure out load data for it.

Ive found reference to someone who loaded TMJ speer 350gr bullets, but ive got no clue how close that the berry's 350gr heavy plated are dimensionally are to those....

So far its been my only lead.

Now, if I may ask, what kind of loads have you done with the 300gr tmj's? And any chance you have a measurement for how long the 300gr TMJ's are?

Disclaimer: My loads, My gun, YMMV. Always use published loads, start low and work up.

I used H110 and started with a charge of 31.5gn and worked up. I settled on a charge of 33.1gn. The 33.1gn charge is slightly below the Speer data starting load (33.5). It works well, and won't beat up my gun.

I seated to 1.580" OAL, but I don't have a measurement for the bullet length. I will try to remember to do that tonight.

Thanks! Thats great info!

If you do that measurement, I will appreciate it aswell... im trying to get an idea of the spread of projo lengths to get an idea of how case capacity is affected.

Thanks good sir!

Now, this is not to be seen as anything but a data point, and it was in MY GUN,
And MY face on the line....

But it turns out 31grs of H-110 under a 350gr Berry's plated bullet ran very well in my Desert Eagle.

Let’s see...350 grain bullet being pushed by 31 gr of h100.....carry the 2 x the vector.....according to my calculations I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end!!! That much in my 480 Ruger (I know different caliber) 275gr screams!!!!! Awesome results, let’s use know what happens.

The primers looked better then what was in the once fired cases I processed to load the ammuntion... so I think I'll let it roll. Not any need to push it any farther....From what I gather it should be very close to the old 350gr TMJ factory loads.

Edited to add: it was also VERY, VERY clean burning. Like I was amazed how clean burning it was. I know some powders have a certain threshold for an optimal burn, and it seems to have hit in this case at that volume, with that bullet.
