Ok I want to see if it’s possible to rechamber a 6.5 creed to a 260 rem without cutting the barrel off… I know everyone saying “just shoot a Creedmoor “ but I have everything in 260, brass mainly, and I don’t have 6.5. brass then I need reloading dies blah blah blah. Can it be done or will I have to cut about 1inch off and rechamber?

You will have to set it back. The minimum, if I can remember correctly, is around .150 thousandths. That's because the creed case is a tad thicker before the shoulder than the 260. The other problem you will run into is the freebore. A 6.5 creed has more freebore than a 260. So to clean all of that up and to get rid of a rough throat you would need to cut a minimum of .750 thou off the tennon.

260. Base 11.96 and before the shoulder 11.53
6.5 creed base 11.95 and before the shoulder 11.74
This is why right? So 3/4 inch off…

I was hoping since the 260 was longer it would make up for thicker top of the Creedmoor or this is stuff a gun smith would understand?

Yes sir. If you went with a 260 ai then you could just chase it without setting it back. But that defeats the purpose. It's honestly maybe 20 extra minutes on the lath to set it back .750 thou

Those are the cartridge drawings. You need to compare the chamber drawings.

260 has more taper and likely won't fully remove the 6.5 chamber. Eg 260 will be undersized behind shoulder.. Set back assures the 6.5 chamber is removed and that the case can headspace at the datum line. Prolly cheeper to sell the 6.5 and buy a 260

Haven’t bought a 6.5, wanted a ar10 upper in Creedmoor then rechamber to a 260…

I am going to start building ar10 barrels soon. I will be able to give you a price soon if you are interested. Just a good barrel blank is 330 bucks and up.
