Im not a stranger to either round but I've had my hand in the grendel for 5 years now, off and on. I've got a AR10, that needs a free float rail. I also have a AR15, noveske receivers, SLR handguard, with no barrel. Also toying with the idea of a ruger predator 6.5 grendel bolt gun.

Anyways... Trying to decide which would be best all around gun.

308 will be heavier, but can take medium game out to 500+

Grendel will be lighter, less recoil and Ive seen it take medium game at 500, but I'd keep it to 300 and in. 500+ for varmints.

The odds of me getting a medium game shot that far, are a lot less than varmint's.. so Thats not a major mark against either caliber.

Once I get a few guns sold, I plan to either get the bolt gun, or slap a Odin 6.5 Grendel barrel on the ar15, OR put an adjustable gas block, free float rail on the AR10 with a rifle stock.

How many places and times are you going to shoot game at 500 yards? Seems rare in NC. Maybe if you travel some.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges. The Grendel and a 308 aren't even in the same category in my mind. If you're planning to only hunt in NC I would say pick your favorite because either one will kill anything you're going to hunt in NC.

If you don’t already have an AR-10 rifle, I’d just buy a Grendel upper

Is there a difference in available hunting projectiles for each caliber?

Do the Grendel. You know you want too.

Been thinking of the 6.5 Grendel myself.

The grendel will have similar hunting rounds, just 123-130gr usually, where as 308, im assuming would be 150gr and up.

The speeds are about the same, the grendel overtakes the 308 in speed/drop past 500, but the 308 still packs more energy due to heavier bullets

Not as rare as you would think. There are plenty of ag fields, cutovers and power lines, especially in ENC with 1000 yd plus visibility.

The issue I see is this.

If you do not have a role for the gun or a NEED then you can not find a good reason to do either one. If its to shoot "long range" you money is better spent on a quality 22lr. Because the chip shots of 500yds and under for any centerfire rifle is a struggle for a 22lr.

IF you have a goal, then buy / build the rifle that fits that need / goal.

John! Since when has NEED been a requirement to purchase a gun with this crew?? I'd say that WANT has been the predominate qualifier for most gun purchases here. And, BECAUSE I CAN. This is still America. :D

Besides, it's good for the economy. ;)

Agree fully.

I have wasted a ton of cash in the past. Lol

Maybe you want a AR10 upper in 6.5 Creedmore? AR15s are easier to carry thou.
