Just curious on what you all think is the best choice for a defensive round in 7.62x39. I've read several reviews and ended up buying some Privi Partizan soft points. Saw one video that said the Wolf 154 grain soft points were more accurate than 122 grain. Anyone have an opinion?

I like Hornady Black, but have not had to use it on any two-legged critters thank goodness. For cheap Russian ammo I like Barnaul factory stuff the best. Heavier Barnaul SP rounds perform well. FWIW, a lot of Russian HP ammo tends to perform more like FMJ, so if you ever go the Russian route I would hunt for SP vs. HP.

Is this for in-home defense or outside property defense? For general self-defense distances I don't think negligible accuracy is going to play a factor. What you need to ensure is that the ammo you go with actually functions reliably in your gun.

I've tried the hollow point stuff in the past and agree - didn't seem to be much difference. Outside the house defense - normally keep a 12 gauge and a few handguns for in the casa.

There are literally millions of people dead from FMJ 7.62x39….I don’t think I would be too concerned with ammo selection.

Hunting? Totally different story, but defense (or offense) on the 2 legged variety predator? It’s not going to matter.

A .30 caliber hole will do the trick but I've been thinking about over penetration issues and I live in Bear country. Saw a video on a guy shooting pumpkins and kinda sold me on the soft point so if the invasion of the killer zombie pumpkins ever happens - I'll be in good shape!

I reloaded some Hornady Soft Points about 3 years ago and not one has been shot. Did not want to waste them in the SKS but got an AK about 3 weeks ago but only have 50 rounds down range.
