I noticed that these days you see a lot more brass cased ammo come up at prices that are comparable to steel cased ammo, mostly imports from Europe. I guess steel cased went up so much it's now worthwile importing more?
True, but there used to be a huge price gap between steel and brass and that seems to be what has changed.Paying $0.50/rd+ for steel case is ridiculous. And 5.45 for $0.70/rd and up?! Man I’m ready for all the Russo-Ukraine surplus.
I doubt there will be any. Maybe AK-74 parts kits eventually, but Ukraine is leaning more towards 5.56 now. You're seeing Brens and M4 rifles on the battlefield and they're going to start manufacturing Brens under licence in country. They're eating through all the old Soviet stocks of ammo pretty quickly.Paying $0.50/rd+ for steel case is ridiculous. And 5.45 for $0.70/rd and up?! Man I’m ready for all the Russo-Ukraine surplus.
Hopefully it's soon. I've tried their 5.56 and .308 ammo, no issues.PSA is supposed to be producing 7.62x39 as well as 5.45 soon.
They've had "soviet arms" boxes of 7.62 as a product for months if not over a year, perpetually out of stock.
They recently added a "sabre" branded box that I suppose is more "premium". That box has been there maybe a week or two. I'm hoping that means they are about to finally start selling the stuff.
I’ve noticed that too. I was buying Norma brass 7.62 for $0.50/rd while steel Wolf was $0.18/rd. The gap has definitely closed.True, but there used to be a huge price gap between steel and brass and that seems to be what has changed.
I’ll check my records but brass is available in both primer sizes. Specific headstamp / brand. I have some of both for just this reason. With regards to 7.62x39, The loss of steel case import and surge of PSA AK rifles has ensured demand for the ammo remains. This has made it more worthwhile for manufacturers to make the ammo. I’m just hoping the cartridge moves to small primers because I don’t like burning up LRPs for 7.62x39.
