Hey all! First post to the forum. Live in the Piedmont of NC.

9mm AR troubleshooting is different from AR-15 troubleshooting, so hopefully you find this diagram helpful. It's been years in the making, and I finally put it on paper.

I've been doing a deep dive study and experimenting with the 9mm AR platform for years now. I discovered many of the core "truths" about 9mm AR's come from untested rumors and heresay that have been passed on from one person to another without verification. Everyone just assumes it's all true. Much of it is incorrect. I've helped a lot of people get their jamming, stovepiping, misfeeding, troublesome 9mm AR's running boringly reliable, and the results have been consistent. I keep all the information on my blog at https://blowback9.wordpress.com

I am not paid for any of this, and I have no corporate sponsors or anything like that. This is a hobby, not a job. If anyone has any questions on how to get their 9mm AR running boringly reliable, feel free to contact me. I'll do what I can to help.

Welcome.
I’m just about to replace the pistol buffer tube on my AR9 SBR, which should change nothing, but we’ll see.
Currently running the first JP captive spring system, but also going to try newer regular springs (braided and flat) to see how they perform…just gotta find the buffer retention doo-dad and spring. It’s suppressed, so the spring-sprong from a traditional spring is irritating.

Thank you!

Changing the tube should have no effect at all. I've tested over 20 springs; standard, flat, and braided. The results are all on my site. Designed a custom spring tester to do the job. https://blowback9.wordpress.com/2021/05/10/carbine-spring-testing-results/

Braided springs for an AR9 seem to be more gimmick than anything. They're thicker than what the tube is designed for, and need proprietary solutions like thinner buffers or buffer collars to work properly. Flat wire carbine AR-15 springs are the superior, and quiet choice for 9mm AR. Comparing all the flatwires, the Wilson Combat carbine AR-15 flat wire is the best choice IMHO. It has very good spring characteristics and fits even extra-wide 9mm buffers. It's also one of the least expensive at about $16.

The buffer detent and spring is available from Damage Industries with very low shipping cost for small parts. They occasionally run "free shipping all orders" promotions. I recently bought $2.40 in small parts, free shipping.

Good luck with your build!

Cool to see you on here. I used your blog and some of your posts on Reddit to get my suppressed ar-v "boringly reliable". Eats flat nose and hollow points like a champ now too.

Great to hear. Glad I could help!
