My oldest daughter gave me a book. It is "Undone" by Philip Yancey. It is a collection of meditations by John Donne, during the time of one of the great plagues. People were dying all around him and these are a record of some of his "devotions" or "quiet times" or "meditations" or however you choose to term them. He is a literary giant who unfortunately wrote in King James English with the normal twisted and tortuous literary path of the intelligentsia of the time. Genius, but hard to follow. Yancey has done us a favor in "modernizing" the language, while trying to preserve the soul of it. In is a worthy task. I will let you know how it goes.
I believe that reading devotional/meditation stuff by great lights of God in the past is very helpful. It is like standing next to a flame. I would love to catch fire myself.
