This came my way about a year ago. I'm not the original owner but I don't think it was shot much by the other person before it came to me. Being left handed, it needs an ambi safety if I would eventually use it for a concealed carry piece. What say you, modify or leave alone? It came with a pair of Colt Custom shop badged wood grips but I don't know if the pistol is a product of the CC shop or if the previous owner scavenged up a set of custom shop grips because he liked them. The frame is nicely checkered and the blue finish is very nice, something that doesn't photograph well.

Its got style as is, leave it alone
To clarify I meant put the ambi on it, that's all, other than that leave it, and by all means shoot it.

Take off the grip panels. If it's a custom shop gun there will be a number on the frame (left side I believe) of the gunsmith that made it. In any event it's a nice piece.

Sell it and buy a couple of things that fit you left handed. That way and God forbid, if you ever have to use a handgun in self defense, you won’t mind losing it until you can get it back.

It is a beautiful piece, I wouldn’t carry it, but that is just me. There are better options IMHO.

I told you yesterday to go shoot it.....did you?

Not yet but wish I could. Still recovering from rotator cuff surgery. Doc says I can start next month with .22s and work up from that point.

I did shoot it prior to the surgery in the early spring. It is a nice piece, a bit of a kick to it compared to my standard size 1911s.

I just checked, no number but I'm still happy with it either way!

Just curious is that a LW prefix can't quite make it out

It has already been fired and modified. Set it up the way you want and carry/shoot it.

I came across a very low round count series 70 9mm which brings a good chunk of change these days and had to make the same decision. It had some marks on the frame which made the decision easier. Just got through putting a new barrel in it because the stock barrel hood had the loose fit typical of Colt at the time. Going to shoot it a lot and maybe use for single stack in USPSA.

Recommendations on a quality blued ami safety that is Wiley E. Coyote school of gunsmithing graduate installable?

I’m not aware of any drop-in ambi safeties. It will probably have to be fitted by a gunsmith unless you can do the work yourself.

Sorry guys, no shooting center fires for me until after at least 6 months from my shoulder surgery, no matter how much I want to!
