Hey folks, I have a question. My son's girlfriend's Dad needs some 9mm ammunition. I have plenty and he wants to buy 200 rounds from me. I do not want to sell it to him at the going market price because I know I didn't pay that much for it when I bought it. It is Federal 9mm 147 gr. HST ammunition. The Federal part# is P9HST2.

I bought mine in bulk from Outdoor Limited in High Point some time prior to 2020. I bought mine before the prices started climbing again. I think it may have even been 2018. They no longer have my orders previous to 2020 available to view on my online account.

Does anyone know or have any idea what this particular ammo would have cost about a year or two ago? It comes in 50 round boxes. He told me he is willing to pay me current market value but I'm not wanting to make money off of this deal. Just trying to help him out. Most places are currently listing it at $1.00 a round and some as high as 1.28 per round. Of course it's out of stock everywhere.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Iirc the hat was close to same price as the GD’s or a little cheaper. I paid $24 I think for 50 RDS of the GD’s.

Okay thanks guys. That sounds about right.

24/25 per 50

I just checked the ammo stash and I still have a box. The last time I bought 9mm Federal HST was in that time frame and it was $28.95 for the 150gr Micro. So that's a good ball park figure.

A couple years ago, I bought HSTs from OL for about 40 cents, all in.

I have 56 rounds of that Micro stuff. I accidentally ordered it when I wasn’t wearing my reading glasses.

I’ll never order that stuff again. If anyone wants it, I’ll give it to you if you want to drive to N. High Point to get it.

Personally, I wouldn’t rely on it to defend against a mouse attack.

Yes sir. I can bring it down there. It’s not that far from me. Just down Skeet Club to Old 311 and a left turn and I’m there.

Let me know when you’re there and I’ll run by and drop it off. Send me a PM if you need to.

I forgot to mention: No matter your experience with this particular ammunition, I wouldn’t recommend using the batch I have for self-defense.

Although initially we experienced multiple cycle malfunctions while mistakenly shooting it through a large frame automatic,
we also experienced problems later running it through an LC9.

Maybe it’s a bad batch we ended up with but I definitely wouldn’t depend on it in a self-defense scenario.

Money dealings among friends and family can be sticky and can lead to long-term hard feelings. You might tell him that you will give him the ammo on the condition that he replace it when ammo is again available easily.

@BatteryOaksBilly @Charlie

Hey guys,

I appreciate the comments and would certainly agree under normal circumstances. The fact of the matter in this case is that he will not take this ammunition unless he pays me for it, or else, I'd happily just give it to him. He offered to pay me current market price and I told him I would not price gouge him like that and would find out about what I paid for it. Thanks again.

He sounds like a complete jerk. I’d gladly satisfy your desire to give it away. 😂

This is an excellent idea. Replace it when the panic is over.

If he insists on paying, find out what the price was a year ago, what it is today, and split the difference.

It’s my son’s girlfriend’s Dad. He needs this ammunition for self defense. We are very fond of his daughter and when she is home from school and staying with her parents, I’m very comfortable letting him have this ammunition for free.

Maybe it’s a pride thing, I’m not sure. All I know at this point is that he has a 9mm semi-auto pistol for home protection. He’s out of ammo and can’t find any.

I’m his only contact to solve his problem and I have the means to do so. That’s really what this thread is about: Helping someone in need of assistance to protect his family.

Thanks again folks.

As mentioned, I'd say split the difference. You will have to replace the ammo, if you can find it and at the current rates. Plus, you're already doing him a favor. He may still feel indebted if you only charge him old pricing. Splitting the difference is a fair way of sharing the burden. It's fair and equitable.

I'd say $30-35 would be a fair price for him. That and Gold Dots I've seen last year/earlier this year for $25-28 a box, and now my LGS sells the 147 HST for $69.99 a box. Split the middle at $35.00 and call it done.

Wait a min,,from what I read this HST ammo is for self protection..So what happened to the last magazine full he had? This is not plinking ammo so he used them up,, on who ? Maybe on the last boyfriend of his daughters? Tread carefully.................................

I just got shipping confirmatifrom Bass Pro on Federal’s new “Punch” SD 124gr 9mm (it almost looks like Federal and Speer collaborated cause jacket and velocity are just like gold Dots) ... @ $14.99 for a box of 20 ... but I was lucky and it sold out before I could post here. Anyway 75¢ per round seems to be the new big box norm ... so $35 for a box of 50 rounds will probably be best replacement price for SD stuff at least thru most of 2021 if not longer.

Tell him to pick up the dinner check for you + 1; order big, both of you save face and no hard feelings.
