I was at a Lowe's in NC a few days ago and saw this weathered looking gal in the parking lot, with a pistol on her hip. I noticed her earlier in the store because she was only about the 3rd person, including me, that wasn't wearing a mask.

I commented on her open carry situation and she admitted that until recently, she hadn't. She also said she doesn't have a CHP, but will be getting one soon. She said she ain't wearing no mask, but she'll be wearing her gun. She hadn't been long come from Walmart, where she also wore the gun, but not a mask, but I digress.

For you that choose to open carry, or have open carried in the past, have you ever been "stopped and frisked" because you had a gun on your hip. That's being a bit dramatic, but I'm curious if anyone had been approached and asked for ID or some other information just because you are open carrying? And I'm referring to actual LE, not security guards or other Paul Blart types. @BBD280

Now to the meat of this query...

What's to stop me from OC'ing in Lowe's, etc., as a SC resident? The fear of being outed? It makes me curious what the offense would be. No, I'm not interested. I like and prefer concealed, but I often wonder if I could simply meander through the throw rugs, G19 in tow, and go about life like it ain't a thing.

Never been hassled about OC from anyone. It's not a regular thing for me but it isn't odd either.
You gotta look the part. If you look like a dreg expect different results.

Lowes is 2 different stores. The man section and the woman section. If you stay in the man area..lumber, tools, plumbing, hardware, electrical..no worries. If you venture into the woman area..plants, paint, yard stuff, there's always Karens over there and you might get some disapproving looks at minimum.

Don't know what law if there is one, regarding out of state residents open carrying in NC.

I think there is a law or precedent in NC that simply carrying a gun does not create PC for police to contact you.

The law you would break if a merchant did not want you to open carry would be trespassing if you do not leave when they request you do so, that is their course of action.

That said I know my local PD has/had a must respond policy to "man with a gun" calls. Not sure how they play out most times.

I have never had any LEO question me. I did have a male Karen come unglued when I got off my bike On a side street to do a tree estimate for his neighbor. Had CC’s Pizza ask me to put my gun in my car. They came and apologized while I was eating and said corporate said I could retrieve my gun and OC in their store. Had a Walmart door nazis have me wait for a manager. Refused me entry, before the new rules. Manager came said have a nice day and walked away. Door nazis jaw was wide open and speechless.

The closest I have come to OC is when I forget to get my shirt over the gun once I get out of the car. I tuck it in behind the gun after I get in, and usually remember to fix it before I get too far....I prefer to not let people know I have a gun on my hip.

I guess a fat old lady wouldn't get much of a hassle? Or even a look?

I have been asked to leave two places, but that's all. I don't OC much anymore, too much else going on with my son to tow around.

The only thing stopping you is the man in the mirror.

never been asked to leave did have one manager ask what I was carrying and had more than one officer say they wished more would open carry. We talked and they said seems when someone is noticed carrying. I was with my daughter and she had her SD with her a big GS and some druggy just knew that she was undercover narc guess cause her dog kept watching him as he was lurking in front a bunch. Only time any LEO ever said anything out of the way to me was a highway patrol who'd stopped me saying I was speeding cause I'd passed him. I told him I was carrying as he came up to check my papers and he said where I said on my hip, I said I'm open but its concealed to you as I'm a lefty and he proceeded to give me crap for open carrying while having a conceal and I said that's my choice. ticked him off but what could he say.

Once, OC'ed while out in the woods working on shooting lanes and stands. Friend and I stopped at the new Starbucks in town (his M idea, had never been to one before). We were both carrying, and didn't even think about it. Everyone in the place was very polite and stayed quietly away from us. When we got in the car, bumped it putting on my seatbelt. We had a laugh.

I have not open carried much. Maybe 20 hours total (not including hiking/camping). Never been bothered.

"You gotta look the part."

Dress pants, white shirt and a tie, I'll bet no one would bat an eye. Short trim haircut wouldn't hurt either.

You just made my life more difficult. My wife is going to want to know why I'm dressing up to go to tractor supply.

I've been asked what kind of gun, what kind of holster by people who wanted to talk shop. Even twice by a cop. I can remember one woman giving me the evil eye. I'm in the sticks though.

I OC a lot less though since the current lunacy started just because I don't have time for, don't want to inspire, don't want the hassle if some lunatic who may think it's their "critical theory" obligation to start something. Kinda stinks because it's Tee shirt weather which means it's a J frame in my pocket since a revolver is my choice around the farm and I'm not going to swap out just to go to a store, Driving to the beach or something I'd be CC full frame auto anyway.

Yes...will arrive and leave Glockless.

You know you want one! :p

Saw 2 guys OC'ing in Hickory Sam's today. One of them was hispanic from what I could tell. That's about the 4th or 5th person I've seen there. About twice that when we used to go to Walmart.

I'm seeing more of it lately, maybe once a week in Cary. Maybe in the past month, Food Lion, Goodberry's, Lowes Home Improvement, and a guy on a motorcycle beside me at a red light. I think some of it may be the first time gun owners that haven't gotten their permit yet. And our stupid Sheriff won't process the CHP applications.
