My AAC 556 SD can isn't locking up anymore when attached to the 51t mounts. I've had the can for about a year and swap it between 2 different hosts. I think the teeth on the can have worn down. Anybody else have a similar issue with an AAC QD can?

I'm going to contact the mfg on Tuesday to see if I can send it in to be serviced.

No I haven't cleaned it yet as I can't take it apart. I'm thinking the two teeth are worn down. But I'm new to the suppressor world so what is the best way to clean a sealed can?

You don't clean a sealed can.

The issue is in the design. Some people have issues, some don't. Some can/mount combos work, some don't.

You have a design where 51 teeth are spread around 360 degrees, so it can be a gap in the rotation in some instances. AAC can replace the latch for you.

There are fixes you can try by grinding off part of a tooth so the latch will catch the next valley. It could also be carbon build up, which can be cleaned off. Sometimes the carbon is what allows a non-working combo to start working, but sometimes it causes a working combo to stop.

The people that seem to have the best success are the ones that press and hold the latch while installing and removing the can...not the ones that allow it to click over every tooth as you rotate the can.

Problem figured out. I wasn't pressing and holding the latch every time I would install it. So hitting those teeth on the install wore down the teeth on the latch. I'm still going to clean the latch but ultimately I will be sending it back to AAC to have them replace the latch.

I'm pretty sure they will tell me when I contact them but what is the process for sending a can back to the mfg for service? Do I got to run anything by NFA?

AAC/Remington should replace the latch without issue. Replacing latch is a repair so you just send it to them in a box with a copy of your
approved form 4. They get it, fix it and mail it directly back to you.

Thanks for the input gents! Couldn't get responses like this in Canada
That's because most of us refuse to post out of the country anymore.
