I stated using this method last year and I'll never go back. Had the biggest and the most carrots I've ever pulled out of that raised bed. No thinning required. I do it a little differently in planting though as I hate to thin.. Instead of holes I mash a piece of quarter round a half in deep in the soil. I space the seeds about 2" apart and then cover them. My boxes are 12" deep and his are around 18". If you want the soil mix stuff you better start looking now. I haven't found any perlite.
