Acorns

Our neighbors across the street "upgraded" to a metal roof a few years ago. They're maybe 500' away. Sounds like popcorn in the microwave when it gets windy this time of year.

Neighbor up here in the mountains has a shed with a metal roof. Right under a nice oak. First time I walked by I thought it was a 22 going off.

how about walnuts?

while i was fishing in the Fall on New River,
the old metal roof on a collapsed barn
echoed like a 30-cal. when the wind
was whipping the walnuts off.

Doesn’t seem to be as many acorns up here in West Jefferson. Wonder if I have different species in Apex bs West Jeff. I know I have white oaks and one other species in Apex. They drop leaves at different times. No clue what I have here.

Some species of oak drop acorns every other year. Some drop every year.

Forsyth, drop seems about like 4-5 years ago, which is to say the yard is paved in them and one must be careful walking on slopes.
Deer may eat them, but prefer corn, they'll hoover it off the ground and leave the acorns laying.

It seems the White Oaks are the prolific ones this year...

Today I spread 16 five gallon buckets of acorns around the salt block next to my deer feeder. Smart deer will easily see that it's a trap!
