Adaptive cruise control sucks!

Same. I can't stand some of the newer "Safety" features. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist top the list. Wife's car was in the body shop a few weeks ago so we drove her rental down to see my folks. 23 model something with every feature on it. I fought that thing all the way down there. Three-hour trip and I was exhausted when we got there.

I haven't driven a vehicle yet that it can't be turned off.

The rental my wife had, you could disable both the adaptive cruise control and the lane keep. Just couldn't figure it out while driving. Turned everything off for the return trip. I think it was a Camry.

Sounds like a Camry,, my wife’s isn’t the simplest to use

It sucks when traffic is light, and helps when traffic is heavy.

I can't turn mine off, but I think that is because I installed a patch to make my auto start/stop default to off instead of on.

Usually if you hold down the button that selects the distance between cars, it will turn off to "regular cruise".

My first with this was my 2019 Tacoma. Driving down 77 with 500 miles on the truck trying to figure out the new cruise control. You cannot set it to be close enough to the next vehicle for idiots to think they cannot pass and get in front of you. Dude passed in the right lane and swerved in front of me and my truck thought I was going to hit someone. It hit the brakes automatically and took me from 75 to 50mph instantly. I have no idea how cars behind me didn't pile up. I turned the "safety" feature off then and haven't used it since.

I freaking HATE all of the 'features' on our new family trukster. The wive loves them.

- I don't need to put my seat belt on to drive across the parking lot.
- I don't need the car to yell at me when I'm parking....yeah, I see the big ass garage door in front of me, yes I want to be closer that 100 yards from it....
- and the one that really pisses me off.....if I hit the door lock, LOCK the damn door...yes, the FOB is in my pocket and the pocket hasn't 'cleared' your safety zone...but I told you to lock the door, so just freaking do it.

returning to my usual routine of yelling at clouds and children laughing too loud now.

If I set the cruise to 70 mph, I want to go 70 mph…NOT 50mph like the maroon in front of me…

Rant off…unlike my ability to completely shut off the adaptive CC

😂
In our Toyota Camry's(18'‐23' generation)and a 18' Corolla(sold), you could hold the Cruise Control button and it would go to the normal Cruise Control.
That was a plus for me anyway.

That sucks not being able to turn it off 😕.

As a truck driver I whole heartedly support the use of Cruise control in any fashion. Because the idiots that pass me then slow down, or speed up as I try to pass are really nerve wracking. I don't care if I pass or you do, but do it and get out of the way or let me do it and get out of the way. I don't want to hang around you.

I use it all the time, just have to still pay enough attention to not let it slow you down.

I too hate the adaptive cruise control. It seems really aggressive in terms of slowing down, hard, when it comes up on someone rather than gradually easing. I would rather turn that function off and use a standard cruise control where I either slow down and / or change lanes and pass when I can.

Thankfully my car doesn't have the adaptive control, just the standard, but then it's also a stick shift.

I love it. First time I used it was on a rental out in Arizona. Went from cruising at 80 on the interstate, took the exit, came to a complete stop at the off ramp stop sign. Made a left onto a secondary road and got up to 45 before I had to touch a pedal of any kind.

Love all those features. The brand new Toyota has it all. Set the cruise and never touch a pedal. Lane assist in cruise on I-40 is like no driving.

On my way to Southern Pines now with all the features enabled. My fav is the charging platform. My wife said “I don’t have a cable that fits these outlets.” I flopped it down in the console and told her it’s charging.

It’s just kind of annoying when I’m waiting on somebody going faster to pass me before I get in the passing lane, then it starts slowing down and I get jammed up and everybody is passing me 😂

Or as mentioned above it leaves enough room for everybody to get in between you and the car in front of you and you keep slowing down.

Just a rental for me that I didn’t try hard to turn it off. 95% of my drive was winding roads in the ozarks where CC was silly. Just last 20 miles on a highway

The Tesla self driving was actually pretty sweet in comparison

I saw a testament to Faith to the Tesla self drive a few months ago on the Durham Freeway.

It was heavy bumper to bumper traffic at 65-75mph. Old guy in tesla in the line of traffic passing me in the left lane and he was eating a bowl of soup while in the driver seat.

I dont have that much faith in technology.

While I had the car out I confirmed that I CAN turn it off, but only if I don’t have a speed set.

I had a coworker who said he used to work with a guy who had a platform attached to the steering wheel that every morning he would put his book and a bowl of cereal, with milk. I kid you not, a bowl of cereal with milk. Finally, one day he got into a crash. Needless to say the HP man was NOT impressed.

I bought my 18 F-350 in Virginia. Coming home through the Durham work area and traffic, the lane narrowed to 1 lane and the guy beside me decided to slip in front of me. I had my cruise on, not knowing it was adaptive cruise and the damn truck just about stood on it nose! Scared the crap outta me! Since then, I’ve learned to love it and miss it when in the Jeep.

Bought the wife a Forester about a year ago. I hate the adaptive and the other computer nags. If you approach a slower car and try to change lanes to pass, the #$%& thing will actually fight you keep you from changing lanes. I eventually figured out how to turn it all off. Much better.

I hate it. We have it turned off in both of our vehicles. If I'm on cruise and gaining on you, I'm going to pass you. I don't need the car telling me to slow down because there's slower traffic ahead. I see the traffic and I'm going around it. Quit messing with my cruise control.

I love cruise control, I will take serious risks to get around people that can't manage to maintain +/- 2.5-3mph, most can't, not even close.
I do not like Toyota's adaptive CC, because it wants you to maintain a massive following distance, and you will find yourself doing 10-15 under.
I drove a number of vehicles with lane assist and didn't even know as I use turn signals, had to ride with someone that complained to find out, crazy.

I often feel like I am the only person that uses cruise control or adjusts my speed up and down based on those white signs with numbers on them. Imagine my surprise that the concept of going faster in a 65 zone than a 55 zone is unknown to many drivers. And vice versa. And let’s not even talk about the idiots going the exact speed limit in the left lane,

I like Adaptive Cruise on the 2 lane roads, but I turn it off on the Interstate.
My truck doesn't have it , but it was an optional feature.

A couple funny things.

Most of them allow you to adjust the following distances. It's somewhere in the menu settings.

You can still pull out and pass on adaptive. Some of you are talking like it traps you in your lane. lol. It's just cruise without having to reset it if you get stuck and can't pass.

Now the lane assist that physically moves the wheel. Nope, nope, nope; hate it with a passion. The alarms are bad enough but don't start turning my steering wheel.

Is particularly annoying in my wife’s car, because for whatever reason, it already feels like our too far to the left.

Seems like the biggest problem with these new features is the NUT between the steering wheel and the seat. AKA the driver, or the NUT holding the wheel!
