Are they worth it? I can't justify the added price, weight, bulk for what it would give me.

I can see comp guns where you're racing, but do they help that much in reg life?

What say yeeeee?

I dont think so. I have one on a g34, got it to match the trigger more than function

It depends on the purpose. On full-size carry guns, nope don’t like them. On compact carry guns, I do like some of the smaller ones like in the link below. I like them not so much for magazine reloads. But it helps keep my dominate hand stay higher on the gun. So it feels like I have better control over the gun and the recoil.

That one looks nice. Would you say it's worth the $99 tag?

I have never had one until I bought an ACW Commander sized in the correct caliber. I think it makes a worthwhile add-on. It did take some initial getting used to but speed and positive mental attitude are improved. It may be all mental, just knowing I spent the $ for it may make reloads smoother. Maybe it’s all imagination!

I think it depends a lot on the size of your hands. For me, I think so. But you may not.

On any gun with double stack style mags, I do not, including 1911 doublestacks.

But I put one on every 1911 (single stack) I owned.

You just reminded me that i did have a smith and Alexander on a gold cup way back in gunsmithing. Iirc It made seating a reg mag hard to do. Wilson's and chip Mcormick's with bumper pads were good to go, but factory colt mags hurt my palm.

I pretty much only use Wilson’s.

You definitely need to run mags with that extended baseplate. The biggest issue is, you’ll think the mag is seated and that you’ve chambered a round, when *surprise*, no BANG when you pull the trigger.

That's exactly what used to happen. I tried to counter it by slamming the mags in hard... which mostly worked but my hand still hurts 20 years later.

I have 2 or 3 with the magwells and the rest of the pistols don't have those. The 2 or 3 I do have are for matches; which just made me think about why are they for match guns only? You have it in the match to facilitate faster movements; shouldn't the same be for EDC?

I think it is a matter of personal preference and a good one. I hope I NEVER have to pull a pistol, let alone use it in a manner that needs a mag change.

So my experience with magazine funnels (what I call them lol) was that the help they provide finding the hole was cancelled out by the magazine being harder to seat. So I took it back off.

When I actually shot matches I found I was just as good at changing mags stock from muscle memory.

My experience was with all double stack and glocks.

I will say that adding a weight to the empty spot in the grip behind the magwell was a far better investment. Really did cut my felt recoil and muzzle flip down.

I like the look and feel of magwells when shooting and reloading. My issue is that I carry at 4 o’clock and the flared edge digs into my hip bone while seated. This is especially annoying when driving.

That's kinda what i was thinking. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

Double stack mags are easy enough to reload to me.

Single stack 1911s, not so much, thus why I posted above I don’t put mag wells on double stack guns, but put them on all 1911’s.

I don't really use them on my IWB carry guns. But I use them on all my match guns if the rules allow it.
All my magwells require magazine base pads to be replaced to use effectively. Although I do have a small one like others on my G19 which doesn't require them.

Like Joe, I just like the way it makes the grip feel. I got the Suarez one which was like $45 at the time.

Safe to assume that if I carried a G22/G17 mag as my spare, I wouldn’t have any issues inserting one into a G23/G19?

As in you could load it up and smack it good before you left the house and knew it was fully inserted. But during a mag change in the heat of the moment, you wouldn’t need to be as concerned with making sure it was seated?

Correcto.
