I love to cook... Lately, my wife and I have been seeing all these fun, quick, air fryer recipes on Instagram, YouTube, etc.

Today, I was walking through Walmart and saw the Air Fryer aisle. On a bit of a whim, I bought one. It's the type with the basket you pull out of the front and it "allegedly" holds 5qts, but that HAS GOT TO BE A LIE....

Anyway, today I read the manual, washed the internals, ran it empty at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, and washed the internals again.

For her maiden voyage, I decided to try lightly battered chicken wings.

I came home from the store with 2lbs of raw (not frozen) chicken wing drummets.

I prepared them all, but only 1lb would fit in the air fryer... Being the weirdo that I am, I decided that I could not wait for 2 batches to cook in sequence, so I decided to fry the second batch in a cast iron skillet with oil, at the same time that the other batch ran in the air fryer.

The air fryer recipe I found online said to cook the wings at 400 degrees for 20min. That was a lie... Try about 45min...

The wings I fried on the skillet were done in 10 minutes.

An hour later, I'm still waiting on the last few wings to come out of the air fryer. 90% of them were done, but the largest ones needed more time.

I have sampled both, and guess which ones taste better? I bet you already know.

The air fried ones are good, but not as good as the ones I fried in oil!

Wings on top went in the skillet. Wings on bottom came out of the air fryer.

The final cohort just came out of the air fryer and they look great... Better than the initial batch...

Edit: I just tried one of these from the pic below. I cooked them longer than the other air fryer group. These are fantastic. I honestly think they taste better than the ones I fried in oil.... Lesson learned... Cook for 45 minutes instead of 20min...

I hope that others will post their favorite air fryer recipes, videos, etc.!

I'll keep adding content as I try new recipes!

Happy cooking ladies and gentlemen!

We have double air fryer ovens. Which is nice because we can air fry a lot of food. I mainly do fish so it’s a little healthier than pan frying in oil. Doesn’t come out as crisp, but still good.

Sweet potato and zucchini fries are our other go to. Season however you’d like. My wife does a parmesan crust on the zucchini fries. I usually use a b’cue rub, seasoned salt or a cajun rub on the sweet taters.

One thing I’ve noticed is the air fryer will burn any rubs that have sugar in them.

For wings throw them on your smoker for a while first. Then finish in the air fryer to get them crisp.

And real wings are never breaded. 😆

Great tips! Thank you. I'll definitely try smoking the wings first, next time.

And, I agree. Naked wings are better, but today I wanted to experiment with this new device and see if it would make the breading crispy.

It did a much better job than I was expecting!

@BBD280

If jackass responds, y'all going to be amazed, or perhaps disgusted. Not sure.

I use mine mostly for reheating stuff that normally sucks if you try to use a microwave. Chicken nuggets, fries, almost anything breaded, but I also like to use mine to cook my stuffed deer sausage. I go straight from the fridge to the air fryer and do 7 minutes at 390. I imagine brats would work the same.

We used our air fryer (subjected to a recall Cosori) as a convection oven when our main oven took a shit. I haven’t really found anything that I enjoyed “air fried”.

@Cowboy had a most excellent chicken wing recipe that was the rare exception.

oh, pizza rolls work good to.

The wife cooks chicken in the air fryer, drums coated with lemon pepper seasoning.. she will have to chime in on temp/duration,

Grilled cheese sammiches in the air fryer are the best… Use papajohns garlic butter sauce instead of regular butter. 🤯

We literally just bought an air fryer. Mainly because we’ve been toying with the Mediterranean diet and a lot of the recipes require one.

Yeah the trick is not doing breading, gotta go with naked wings.
Post up that Buffalo wing recipe. @Bows & Bullets really knocks it out of the park with them. And dang it, now I want some wings and she’s working 😕

My Air Fryer will do 8 wings in 13 minutes at 400°. No breading just a rub on the skin. They are awesome.

homemade chicken nuggets and chicken fingers with breading usually takes about 20 minutes.

The Planko breading seems to crisp up better in my frye.

Quick and easy breakfast dish.

Take slices of loaf bread and use a small glass like a cookie cutter and cut out the center. Lay the slices in the air fryer on a sheet of cooking paper and break an egg in each slice. Cook at 350 till the egg is done to your liking. Some like it runny, some not.

I make some excellent Tilapia in the air fryer. My air fryer is pretty small, and only cook one filet at a time.

Brush Tilapia with a mustard and Dukes 50/50 mix. Place brushed side down in bed of seasoned bread crumbs. Brush other side of filet with 50/50 Mustard/Dukes. Flip and bread crumb other side.
Light spray inside of air fryer basket with olive oil spray. Put filet in basket. Cook 17 minutes at 375. Crispy perfect Tilapia.

Works with Chicken breast too!

anyone with young kids needs an airfryer. it's perfect for chicken nuggets/fries/pizza rolls/etc.

I've made decent wings in it with thawed wings, a little olive oil, and some seasoning of salt, pepper, garlic, onion. very tender and fall off the bone.

We use ours more than our actual oven, it has actual trays opposed to a basket, it comes with a basket and a drum as well....

Cut some baby potatoes in half, toss with mayo and you spices of choice, usually some sort of BBQ rub. Air fry for maybe 15-20 minutes at 400 or so.... you are welcome.

If you eat French fries from an air fryer, try this. After cooking them all but 1 minute, pour a small amount white truffle oil into a Tupperware shake fries and season with salt. Put back into the air fryer for the last minute. You may have to add a bit more time as the truffle oil softens them. Once done, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Enjoy! Again a small amount of truffle oil.

Have a small one, wife doesn’t care for it but it does cook some things better. Tonight I did Brussels sprouts and onions, took half the time, maybe 25 min vs the oven (50-60min). Salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil. Tossed with about a tablespoon of hickory syrup when done. Trying to create a recipe from the Polite Pig in Orlando/Disney. I’ll give it a 7/10, theirs was prob deep fried and was a 10.

As to wings, mine is small but agree it takes a bit and can’t over crowd it. I’ll usually split a 1lbs pack of wings and do two rubs. Lowe’s Food has some good rubs, particularly a honey mustard dry rub. Then a little buffalo and ranch on the side to dip and GTG. But yea with 6ish wings in the small basket it’s 25+- min to finish and get crispy.

Used the seasoning, sauce, and "twice baked" version of cooking. Was excellent, great crunch and flavor!

Mix 1tsp seasoning to 2tbsp ap flour. Only do 6 or so at a time(I did up to 8) so as not to crowd pan.
Cook at 250 for 20 min.
Rest in fridge for 30min.
Cook at 400 for 8 min. Flip halfway through. Since these were resting in fridge, add spray of oil.
Sauce.

So far we’re enjoying ours.

Tonight we took salmon filets, coated them in honey mustard with thyme and basil mixed in and then coated them with Porko (a new discovery which is panko made from crushed up pork rinds).

Recipe said bake at 320 for 12 minutes but it took 17.

It was fantastic and the Porko will be a staple around here. Always hard to balance low carb with my love of fried food. This way I can get both.

You can also crust things with grated parmesan or mix the parm with the porko.

Way more work, but give this a try. It‘s the only way my wife will eat salmon now. And it’s pretty healthy.

That’s what tonight’s recipe called for and this is my favorite so far.

Half pork dust, half Parmesan, dredge small shrimp through egg with a tsp of mustard mixed in, coat with the pork dust mix, spray with avocado oil and cook for 9 minutes at 400, flipping about half way.

Little shredded cabbage on the bottom of the lettuce boat, some pico and guacamole and a squeeze of fresh lemon.

I don't know how much Porko costs, but you can make your own at home, for cheap, just by crushing up pork rinds. That's the only ingredient. Crush them in a ziploc bag or instantly disintegrate them in a food processor.

I’m never going to lose weight if I keep eating this much diet food. Lol.

IMO after 50 you can‘t diet enough to lose weight. You need some form of diet discipline and a consistent exercise plan. The metabolism just ain‘t what it used to be. Throw any wrench in that mix and it doesn‘t work.
