Not a terrible price for a 74 these days, would you consider one of these? Why or why not?

Humor me what do you mean not a true 74?
It's really an AKM/47 style rifle in 5.45. I didn't look hard at it but the gas block and threads are "47".
74 looks like this:

Man I remember when the Century built clones went for far less than 1K...

I love my WBP, it is my second AK-47, the charging handle is very smooth, it’s super accurate out to 100 yds at least my 7.62x39 is (I was putting rounds through the same hole on paper), they use the fb radom barrels if I’m not mistaken, but like expriravit said “that round is kind of dead” or something to that effect

Yeah the price for 5.45x39 is pretty bad these days, but I would like to add the fourth gen of Soviet service rifles to my collection. Mosin, SKS, AK47 I have. Well technically my AK"47" is of course more like an AKM but it's close enough.

Great price for a great quality rifle but if you want to shoot it I’d go with the x39, but if it’s for your collection by all means, get that last piece brother lol

I already have 2 ARs and a 7.62x39 AK so I'd have to pass on that one.
Ok. So, just to be clear, the caliber of the AK-74 is the turnoff for most people, but the turn on for you? Are you looking for something in 5.45, or an AK like thing that's not the same?

Cause an original Galil or a sig 556 or Cetme L can be had in 5.56, or a Galil Ace in 5.45, depending on if you want unique gun or unique caliber.

Correct, I would like an AK 74 in the correct caliber.

@Stogies Do it! Suffer with me and join the 5.45 master race.

I made the mistake of shooting 5.45 and immediately fell in love with it. I can double tap like a screaming demon! There will come a time when the Ukraine/Russia deal will implode and we’ll get all of the cool surplus… including 5.45 ammo. There was also a rumor that PSA would be producing 5.45 stateside.

If that doesn’t happen, hopefully there will be an invasion on US soil of sorts so I can merk some commie boys and take their crap.

Ah, ok.
Then, no.
As mentioned, that is not a real 74, and I wouldn't want a real one, personally, for the above mentioned reasons.
But the heart wants what the heart wants, if you find a good one, you do you.

I would have zero problems buying that rifle if I was looking for something in 5.45.
Clone correct ? No
Does that matter to you ? Only you can answer that

If you have a source for ammo maybe. PSA was supposed to be producing it domestically but it has been crickets. I love 74's but ammo is the problem.

I have a strong fondness for AKs but they've just become too costly to make it a practical weapon for me. All the cost of quality optic mounts, ambi selectors, handguards, furniture, and now ammo. It's gotten insane.

What would be considered a “fair” price for 5.45x39 these days? I’m sitting on a few thousand more rounds than I probably need.

I think this says it all.

There are practical items, and items you just want. Two different things.
I have numerous firearms where ammo is just about unobtainable - but I'm very happy to own them.

(post pics when you get it, lol)

Ammoseek has it starting at 0.72$ a round for steel cased ammo, not sure if that helps any. Pretty pricey for sure.

I'll have to give it a pass. Would be nice but There's a demilled AK74 parts kit matching with barrel laying around here and a spam can of ammo. Everything is laying around here..
