Ak mags

That's kind of where i was with it also. The ak game has changed quite a bit since i was last in it. A big thanks to all you guys who helped me along the way. Without this place I'd be lost.

I also recently picked up a new style PSA branded magazine they recently put out. It’s their “AK103” variant mag
How is the fit and finish on these mags? They are a good looking mag.

If you don't mind dropping one of them loaded and see if it explodes like an AR MFT mag. I am new to the AK world and still learning idk if mags dumping ammo when dropped is common or not.

They are wonderful! Very nice and solid feeling mag, and strangely similar to the $12 Bulgy “non-aggressive sandpaper” feel, which I like.

I stopped by the Columbia PSA store on the way home from Charleston. I purchased a FDE 103 mag for my sister for her birthday, and I grabbed a waffle pattern mag. I’ll take a few pictures and report back.

That's good to hear! I've wondered myself if PSA is contracting out Magpul or someone to make their magazines. Their akv/scorpion mags are wonderful. Although I didn't drop one they felt like high quality.

After having to pickup a bunch of green tip on my front yard after chucking an mft mag to a buddy I'm paranoid of the drop safe thing.

How so if you don't mind me asking?

I’ve gone to mostly polymer mags. Up keep is a lot easier. It hit me a couple years ago that if they are the #1 choice for AR’s then Polymer were going to be my go too. I have totes full of them and I don’t worry about rust anymore😁

Well when i was into them last, ar's were $800 and up and i was getting wasrs for $279 and they all worked fine. I didn't think about what mags to use. I just used whatever came with them and everything worked as far as i remember.

Now there are so many more options and prices have switched to where ak's are pricey and ar's are more affordable. Everyone i know uses ar's and so part swapping and group ammo buys are easier for me.

I still love the ak design i just realized that my reason for getting them way back when is the same reason i have an ar now.

Yeah I remember those days, I bought some AKs when they were around 400 and ARs were twice that. Not it's the other way around.

Agreed. Back when i was in gunsmithing school. $1000 got me 2 ak's, a box of mags, and a case of ammo.

Sadly time change and inflation is a B--- lol

Still some deals to be had but nothing like before. I just sold a 1962 matching AK Tula kit for $1800 and have a mag sitting on my desk that was $200. Not to say thats a perfect picture of the market but things definitely change

And I should also add @Mr. Bggs that it definitely makes me sad. I was to young and not into firearms early enough to take full advantage of the heyday. Now unfortunately like most I'm playing catchup on kits, mags, etc. Sadly all we can do do is wheel and deal where we can to build and complete our collection and maybe try to take a little solace in that at least newer generations are becoming interested in keeping the history alive and thats part of the price increase. Cheers.

@AK-Ben how is the PSA mag testing going? Lol
Sorry, I completely forgot!

The waffle mag and 103 mag have ran flawlessly in my GF5-E and my sister’s GF3. I also had no explosions when dropped full on carpet in the house, or on hard-pack dirt at my range :)

For $25, they’re awesome!

No worries I did too until I saw someone else bump it.

You are the man thank you! I'll have to grab a couple on my next PSA order.

Here are some pics of the 103 mag I got for my sister. I’ll take some of my waffle momentarily. Man they look good when installed too! Also, both have steel reinforced lips and locking lugs.38FD41C7-65F2-4917-97F5-68539B9AC033.jpeg4B7459E0-A450-47E2-BBB2-C6D7A066EAA7.jpeg

The problem is economics, the supply of surplus kits dried up and US makers never cranked out as many AKs as they did ARs. With Russia off the market there are just not enough US companies making enough AKs to drive the prices back down. As far as components and know how is concerned there is really no reason why an AK should today cost twice as much as an AR.
