Before I go down the rabbit hole myself, I'm willing to pay someone to install a Polytech bayonet front sight block on a Mak-90, but I don't know of anyone in the western part of the state who would be decent. We have two gunsmiths in my town, one just flatly said he doesn't work on AKs, and the other wanted to silver solder the front sight block on, so obviously I'm not using either of those.

If anyone's got a recommendation for someone who could do the job well, please let me know. Closer to Asheville the better.

I know Troy Sellers is over the hill in TN but so far I haven't gotten a response from him.

Not close to Asheville , but I have had great luck with a local shop. They are a class 3 FFL among other things they build machine guns and will build AKs from a kit. I had them do work on my MAK 90 , bumped sight back and installed a pin &weld QD suppressor mount to meet length requirements

Ask for Paxton or Perry - tell them I sent you. I cannot say enough good things about these guys. They are really good at AKs. Paxton does some custom work for a few competitive AK shooters as well

Bit of a hike, but Victory Arms in Mocksville builds AK's.
