I got rid of my 47 and 74 years ago (pains me to admit those were mistakes) and the only com-block caliber I have left in my flock is the Robinson XCR 5.45 conversion kit (got rid of the 7.62 kit as well due to crappy AR 7.62 mags at the time). Anyway, thinking about another 47 and wanted to see if anyone had experience with the AKG-47.

This is Brandon Herrera’s AK build and he is “The AK Guy” (lots of YouTube vids). I think he is based out of Fayetteville and I don’t mind supporting Carolina “locals” if their products are good (PTR, PSA, FN, Rugged, etc). He is also working on an AK-50...holy crap!

Any experience or thoughts on the AKG?

Info from the website:

The AKG-47 is an American built 7.62x39 AKM that is purpose built to be the affordable, yet reliable AK that you've been looking for.

The AKG-47 starts life as a new production, virgin Romanian military grade parts kit. It's built on a standard 1mm stamped steel receiver using Russian spec rivets, and fitted with a cold hammer forged Romanian barrel. Once completed, the rifles are Cerakoted by "We Plead the 2nd." Rifles are then inspected for quality control purposes, and come zeroed at 200 yards.

All AKG-47's are hand built, and every one is personally inspected/test fired by me (Brandon Herrera, the owner) to ensure you get a rifle worthy of the "AK Guy" name.

Quick Specs:

Romanian Military Parts Kit

Cold Hammer Forged Barrel

7.62x39mm

Cerakoted "Graphite Black"

Side-Rail Included

Polished G2 Trigger

Tango Down Battle Grip

XTech 30 Round Magazine (1)

Lifetime Warranty

Meh.

There's probably nothing "wrong" with it in a strictly mechanical sense, but at the end of the day it's just a kit build using virgin parts (that last bit may be a pro or a con depending on who you are, but I'd argue that authentic, serialized surplus parts definitely give an AK its soul). And if I was interested in this, which I'm not, I'd really want to know the provenance of said parts. He coincidentally leaves out the word "Cugir." On purpose? Just because these parts are supposedly made in Romania, where exactly do they come from? Who's making the CHF barrel? "Military-grade" doesn't always mean milspec. Kinda like the rotten Pioneer garbage that comes from Radom, Poland but not the actual Radom war factory.

This is basically an American made WASR with dimples, built by some guy ("you get a rifle worthy of the "AK Guy" name." ... seriously??) for a few hundred dollars more than a WASR.

In my humble opinion? Stick with WASR.

Also, what the hell @ that receiver logo?!?

Thanks for the insight! Yeah, the logo on the gun is kinda cheesy! Should have left it as just AKG and not spelled it out.

Correct zero range for an AK is 100m with the rear sight on the battle notch. I'm not even an AK guy let alone the AK guy and I know that.
