Quieter today with the rain, but the prior two days, here in the sticks of central NC, they have been the loudest game in town. Very impressed. Friend living about 10 miles away in a small town hears nothing tho.

And for any of you who are wondering what you are listening for, Weds morning was the first that I heard them. It was very faint that day, and at first I thought it was farm equipment off in the distance. Thursday it was much louder and Friday it was unmistakably something out of the ordinary.
Out here in the sticks, I have a pasture on one side of me, beside that a young growth stand of pine that very recently was part of a controlled burn, and then mature, mixed pine/hardwood forest with a small creek running through it. The racket is definitely concentrated in the wooded area, tho in the burned area they are very active flying around. I remember hearing a previous brood a number of years ago, but I really don't remember it sounding quite like this, so I am attaching an audio file from Thursday morning if anyone wants to know what to listen for.
Hmmmm, ok so I was going to upload a file, but I dunno how to change a .amr file to something that this site will support.
So if anyone is really curious, PM me and I'll send ya a link.
