I told the story about going to Academy in Beaumont, TX last week and the cashier asking if I needed any ammo. Well, today I went to Baytown, TX for a meeting. Baytown is on I-10 about halfway between here and Houston. I purposely got there early to check out a couple of pawn shops to see if they had anything interesting. They didn't.

I saw an Academy and since I still had a few minutes to kill, I went inside. I didn't see any ammo at the customer service area so, I wandered back to look and see what guns they had in stock. They had the normal stuff, nothing that I wanted. I went down the ammo aisle and there was a large roll around cart loaded with ammo. There was about 20 boxes of Blazer 9mm, about 20 boxes of American Eagle 380, several 50 round boxes of Remington 45 Colt, several boxes of 5.56, several boxes of 6.5 Creedmore, 308 Win, 7.62X39, 45 ACP, and other rifle and shotgun ammo. No one was making a mad dash for the ammo, no one was even around the cart.

I haven't been searching for ammo but this is the most I've seen in a while. Maybe the panic buying is starting to wind down.

I'd say yes, improving. Still a long ways to go though. I think we've reached the peak, and now it's slowly coming down. SLoooooowly.

I think it is getting better but slowly. I see a good bit of ammo on different classifieds that is not moving until the price drops to around $25 (9mm). 380, 38 Special, 45 Colt are still very scarce. Not sure about rifle ammo. Havent asked around lately

Natchez seems to have discovered the breaking point. They have cases of 9mm Blazer Brass at $550 and (strangely), boxes of the same stuff for 1 cent less per round. It’s been available for days.

H4831SC, H4350, Fed 210...anything else would be uncivilized. :)

Availability is getting better pricing is not. The buyer has set the acceptable price threshold which as @Jeppo pointed out is currently about $.55 for 9mm+ shipping and tax. At that price it sells slowly but it sells. Anything under that goes fast.

Right now you can get 9mm brass cased Ammo shipped to your door for $.60ish a round all day everyday. The market has reached an equilibrium point. Now that it’s there it needs to stay in stock longer. The longer it sits the more it costs the retailer. They will then have to lower the price to move the metal. Only by leaving it on the shelf will the prices come down. I estimate 12 months+ until we see $.30 9mm.

Primers will follow the same trend lagging by 6 months. There won’t be a ton of primers until there is a surplus of Ammo on the shelf. They would rather sell us amm vs primers.

Local gun store has good amount of 30-06, .270 and other various hunting calibers on the shelf.... so I’d say that has improved compared to the past several months.

I noticed that CCI and Federal have both started selling 22lr for 8c/round the past week or so. To me, that's good news. It's still not where it "was", but I think it's below the percentage increase 9mm has seen.

As far as reloading supplies, since I'm one of those evil buy and resell it guys, I can easily say it's not slowing down. Prices are going up every week and everything still sells out in seconds. I'd like to say powder is getting worse. A few weeks back I was saying it's getting better. Projectiles are absolutely becoming more commonly, in stock, items. Powder and primers for sure as hell aren't.

I work in GSO and maybe every other week check the sportmans warehouse and academy. Sportmans had been pitiful on the shelf then lo and behold, I find some 45 colt. Walk to the front only to find a shelf cart at the register! Some 308,223 7.62x39and 300 blkout. They have been keeping it there since Jan or Feb. I was pissed! I had been checking the shelves and walking out through the front which is a seporate way from the cash register!! Academy would maybe have some once a month for my lunch time visit. Random makes and calibers 5.56 green tip 233, steel 9mm monarch in 100 rd boxes. But it is totally hit or miss on quantity, type and prices are not great. 11.99 for tull amo 223 (20 rounds) Sportmans had the same for 8.99 (for 20 rounds)

You are looking at 2 of the only places that have not raise prices through the roof at the retail level. They have no stock because they are known to sell at the lowest price in todays market. That is not a reflection of ammo availability in the market.

Id say yes but it is also academy changing up when they put the ammo out to stop the 100 to 200 people waiting hours before the doors open i actually got ammo today almost passed out

I was trying to say, that they were cleaned out from May to Feb, now it looks a little better

Covid restrictions lifting? More people back to work nation-wide? Summer? More Ammo?😋

Prices will go back down when supply catches up, but unlikely to go back to where it was prior to this insanity.
On the flip though, if people keep acting liked starved lambs nothing will change, we'll just keep getting the carrot and the stick.

When the Trump-hating, sniveling buffoon running this newscast reports this story, you know the shortage and price inflation is long over.

Until I have 10,000 small rifle primers in my obsession, there will continue to be a crisis.
Ok, you're all set! :D

There does seem to be more ammo available, and prices are lower overall. However, some calibers are still hen's teeth and priced accordingly. Powder seems to be more available (again with certain popular exceptions), but primers are still gold-capped hen's teeth.

That said, prices are still high, just not as high. And there's good reason to expect future shortages and price hikes at the drop of any type of headwear.

Academy here has been pretty well stocked with 9mm FMJ the last few times I've been in. And some JHP on occasion as well. Not "normal" in terms of volume and variety, but it's on the shelf and available and not too much above pre-panic prices.

I was in our local Academy yesterday looking for some shoes. I checked and the ammo is back on the shelf now and there was plenty of all the popular calibers of handgun ammo with the exception of 38 Special.

A buddy needs some 410 ammo for his Judge and I looked and there and there was none.

Ammo is everywhere now. It is just not as cheap as it was. 9mm steel cased is $.30 and brass is $.35. You can find case lots at that price all day long.

Stopped by 4 places off of I-40 from Burlington to Raleigh this evening. All had various calibers of handgun ammo in stock. Dunham's in Burlington had 357 sig for $72/box. Guess they plan on keeping it in stock for awhile.

I was at Rural King yesterday and they had plenty of 9mm for $20 a box. I didn't know there was still a shortage, haven't bought any since this crap started.

Saw $18 a box 9mm this weekend at the Winston show. Dealer across from us had 4 cases at that price. They sold out, but it was encouraging, nonetheless.

I won't pay today's prices for any ammo. 9 mm ,no more that $10.00 a box.The last I bought was $8.99 per box of 50. If I need any ammo I'll just load it.I have plenty of primers ,powder, projectiles and brass.

Definitely not paying today's prices.

I'll do .25 per round for 9mm range burner and double that for good stuff.

I was in walmart friday wandering around while my wife frittered away my hard earned $$$s. I went to the sporting goods dept. They had a number of rifles and shotguns for sale. They did not have any ammo to go with them. There were absolutely no shotgun shells. Nothing for dove season. I asked if they were going to get any shotgun shells in. Got a shoulders shrug. I don't know what the supply is where you're at but there's nothing in Hillsborough. I don't know what the LGS has but I refuse to patronize it.
