While you are waiting on membership, keep in mind that the competitions such as IDPA are not limited to members. Look at the web site to find out what events are planned. The same is true of Buccaneer. Buccaneer is having IDPA this Saturday and other matches on a regular basis. Their web site had schedules. One thing that might throw you off is the statement on the web page that the matches are open to members, guests, and members of the general public who might be considering membership. That does not mean that you are actually planning on trying to join. Just about anyone in the public, with a very few exceptions, can be thought of as possibly considering joining. That statement was written for rather specific reasons. If you can legally own firearms and have never resigned your membership, the reasons do not apply to you.
