I’ve heard that there are some Class III dealers that let you use your NFA items at their range while you wait for approval. I want to get into suppressors, but I can’t stomach the idea of paying a bunch of money + an unconstitutional $200 tax stamp only to not be able to use it for 9+ months. Does anyone know of any within a hour’s drive from High Point that ideally have reasonable transfer fees and a silencershop kiosk?

I don't know of a specific dealer with a range in that area. Of course I don't live in that area so that isn't surprising. I will say that you shouldn't have to pay any transfer fee if you purchase through a dealer with a Silencer Shop kiosk. Dealers with the Kiosks are partnered with Silencer Shop and are not supposed to charge any fees related to the transfer.

Also, the 9+/- months are going to pass no matter what you do. In 9 months you can either have a silencer or not have one because you didn't want to wait. Lots of people don't get into the NFA stuff because of the wait. I get not wanting to wait, the waiting sucks. However, not doing it because of the wait just means you will never get to enjoy the stuff while the time passes either way.

My theory is "don't waste time not waiting for stamps." :)

Only true if you’re buying through SS. You can buy from anybody else, still use the kiosk (for a fee), and get charged a transfer fee.

I remember my first one. Thought the anticipation was going to be the death of me. Thinking about it everyday just made it worse. Make the jump, don’t worry about shooting it while you wait.

In fact, I recommend having another project ready to go that will keep you occupied and your mind off the suppressor during the waiting period. Although difficult, just try not to think about it while you wait. I promise the time will go by quicker when you are focused on another project.

Appreciate the sentiments everyone. But that’s a negative on dealers that allow conjugal visits for your items in NFA jail?

I know I’m already on a thousand lists, but another thing holding me up is the thought of surrendering additional personal information to the ATF, paying $200 for each tax stamp and going through a lengthy process that shouldn’t exist in the first place. C’est la vie. I’ll probably still cross the line when I’m ready.

It’s been 12 days and I have thought about it every day 😂

Any FFL with an SOT and a range should let you shoot it while in jail. Just make sure they allow you to shoot the caliber you’re suppressing in their range.

And make sure they don’t charge for conjugal visits.

Seriously, there was one around here that has that listed on their site. $10 (maybe $15) to take it out of the safe each time. I just checked and don’t see that anymore, but their transfer fee is $175 on one page and $195 on another. 🙄

Carolina Guns & Gear in Asheboro used to be an option, not sure if it still is. One site I clicked said “permanently closed”, but I don’t know if that’s the store and/or range. They were part of the SS network, but the only time I used them were before the kiosks existed. Might at least be worth a call.

They are closed. Went out of business about 6 months ago.

Zoo city ammo bought them out. Range is still a thing and zoo city has an SOT.

Rad Range in Burlington
Just a heads up they ONLY do electronic 4473s and if their system is down you're SOL. Come back later when the system works. They are a nice group of guys, although I don't agree with their electronic only policy.

I think they do machine gun shoots also. Last time I went in their shop they were showing me their full autos. That's been a few years now.

They do machine gun shoots, the prices seemed fair imo such as $25 for a full-auto Glock 17. Haven’t rented one yet but I’d like to when I visit again at some point.
