My son is starting to get into video games and he has a PlayStation 4, I don’t know a whole lot about video games but he’s looking for some war style games that are somewhat realistic. I guess the best way to put it he doesn’t really like the whole futuristic robot fighting stuff so I just wanted to see if someone could suggest some games he might like. Thanks!

And if he’s good, look into what’s being played in esports these days. Maybe he can compete.

Not sure of his age, but agree with Fortnite. My son also likes God of War, Assassin’s Creed and Fallout 4, but if worried about language and adult themes, I would stay away from these.

Tell him to checkout PubG. It’s multiplayer and somewhat challenging

I play Nintendo systems and collect older ones. My suggestion go to some local video game stores like Matt's Game Exchange in Greensboro or Lost Ark also in Greensboro. Matt's is my go to place to buy games and they are willing to help and have lots of inventory. Gamestop is ok but just is a big box store where other two are locally owned with great knowledgeable people willing to help.

not sure if ittle work on PS4. but the PC version is flipping awesome. currently rocking about 600 hours on it

or World of Warships… Legends i think is what it’s called on console. as with HLL it’s fun on PC

Far Cry 5 is a pretty fun game as well

I play Fortnite quite a bit with my oldest son. I also play Starfield sometimes.

Some of the best titles are on PC only (Tarkov being the most realistic).

Call of Duty, Battlefield and CSGO should all be available on PS4 I believe

CSGO has been shut down and replaced by CS2. I don't think either was ever available on console.

Oh there is a new one? I’m old and out of the game. I thought they used to have CS at least on XBox for a time.

There is, CS2 was recently launched and CSGO is shut down. CS2 is almost exactly like CS:GO. Same movement/maps/weapons/economy, now has better graphics and a number of quality of life updates(minimap indicates sound, crosshair can be set to follow recoil, accidentally bought weapons can be refunded during buy time. One way smokes are fixed, grenades can briefly break up smoke).

Despite the internet complaining about various things(netcode/movement/not having the strange old game modes noone played), it is a polished release compared to most games now that release as completely broken pre alpha demos and I haven't noticed any issues in the few matches I've played.

Well hot damn. May have to try it out.

A PC is much more ideal for wargaming and is much cheaper in the long run.

Operation Flashpoint and the Close Combat series are top tier war games.

My wife and I recently started playing Conan Exiles with a friend of ours. I slept on this game for a long time and should have tried it earlier. It's a Conan the Barbarian-themed survival game. Tons of looting, crafting, building, and fighting with a pretty sizeable map. It reminds me a good bit of Valheim with much better graphics and no sailing.

Sniper Elite series of games are pretty good games. I have the ones available on ps3 but that's the newest console I have. I know they have some newer games in the series that are for ps4 and probably ps5. There primarily sniper only challenges with alot of running and sneaking around with some close quarters and takedown fighting in between sniper post. You can play at basic level which takes out ballistics and makes for better running and gunning. Or you can play master level which takes in wind, breath control and everything else to make for alot harder game play. The first 2 games for ps3 are based in ww2 killing nazis with period correct firearms. First game is in Berlin second game was in Africa.

Check to see what games his friends are playing or what ones you might like to play with him. At his age playing video games can be a lonely activity. It’s best to play with others/be interactive with others so as to manage time wisely.

Ace Combat 7 is one of my favorites. It's not a flight sim, more arcade, but it's a lot of fun. Good music, awesome graphics, good replay value and multiplayer as well.

Oops, here I was gonna say "Mechwarrior 5"...

I have Sniper Elite 4 and 5. They're among my favorite games. I give them a play through every year.
Also, the Last of Us is a fantastic game, the sequel less so.
I enjoy Deus Ex games too.

Recently got into far cry 6. I enjoy it and you get a pet gator.

I should give Far Cry 6 another go. I have 5 too, but I hated the dynamic of getting drugged and kidnapped constantly.

COD MWIII is much different than MWII. More "realistic" if that can truly be applied.

I play about an hour after work every day, just to decompress and give the little kids a character to perfect their finishing moves. (Little hellions)

That Gray Zone game looks like it will be a Tarkov killer.

Got my boy the steering wheel, pedals, and gear shifter with the stand for his xbox. Now everytime you walk past his room you hear tires screeching and then loud crashing. Drivers ed is going to be interesting with this one.

Headset with mic should’ve been included. 😝

Ours has played that way for several years. We hear him yelling at the screen, or at one of his buddies, but that’s it.

Lots of games have been Tarkov killers. yet here I am still getting Tarkov'd. But, I really hope Gray Zone lives up to the hype. Been keeping an eye on Road to Vostok and We The People as well.

Any other Fortnite players on here looking for some casuals to play squads/trios with? Our usual online friends of several years decided to ghost my wife and I, so we're looking for new teammates so we don't always have to play with randoms.

I recently decided to pickup Fallout 4 again and start from scratch. On this play through I've decided to not become a Minuteman and build settlements to defend. Instead I went straight to the Railroad. And from there to the DLC island of Far Harbour. I'm trying to get strong enough to go kill off the Brotherhood of Steel.

far harbor is not a place to start the game.. no sir. it's often challenging even at a high level.

There's some mods to change your start setup and remove the Minutemen entirely.

Any thoughts on Fallout 4 compared to 76? Haven't played the series at all.
