I found a Hungarian AK63D parts kit I'd gotten years ago and forgotten about.
Got a nitrided barrel and a Childers receiver. Then forgot about it for a few years.

Anyone know a good builder to bring this parts kit into reality?

In for info. I also have a cetme kit just hanging out from the same tuck-away-for-later technique.

I highly recommend Ballistic Research and Machine in Jacksonville. Located on Richlands Hwy 24 in between Jacksonville and Richlands. The place is Vet owned and all the gunsmiths are Vets as well. They build class 3 machine guns and their very own line of suppressors. I have personally used them for AK work and several guys I know have had them build out kits. Price is competitive and they can make customization part of the build too
Ask for Paxton ( he is the AK guru ) and Perry is the owner

What was their price range for a build? It would probably save a few dozen calls from people watching this thread

I believe the best builder retired. @digitalpaladin10, you fully retired or are you taking on small jobs from time to time?
I am proud to say I have one of his Carolina Hammers. Darn thing kicks fanny. Can’t wait to thread my (hopefully soon to be released) can on and send it.

Oh no, he retired?
I tried to find the thread where he talked about it. I’m not sure if he was retiring or taking a break. Maybe he will see the thread and post something to clarify my failing memory lol.

What finish is that?
Maybe I'm weird, but it's a texture thing, I don't like guns with rough finishes. I like em smooth.
How smooth is that, and what finish?

If I recall Dennis offered a few Duracoat options in matte and semi-gloss. The Maadi and three of the Romies he did for me he finished in matte black. Two other Romies (so I have six DP10 builds, not five) started as super rough surplus kits (I posted a thread about that process - BFPU Cugir and Sadu parts kits), and Dennis did an acid rust treatment on the bare Recreator receivers to match the surplus parts. They turned out incredible.

If anyone has a good smith that is COMPETENT and can install a 4.5mm rear trunnion on a zpap85 I’d very much like their information.

I frequently quote that same job but to be honest its so much work and the price ends up being $450 ish. No one ever does it. Zastava guys are cheap. To be honest its cheaper and easier from a smiths perspective to get a receiver from Childers thats already set up for the side folder and to move everything over to the M85 over to the Childers Yugo pattern side folder receiver.

Heres one you might not have considered. The VZ58 stoci is ALMOST a bolt on to the AK and can be done without a smiths help. Theres also the Zastave M21 stock that takes a little smiths work but only a hundreds worth.
