When I was in the reserve they were looking for reservists to man some of the departments on the Kennedy as it steamed along the Atlantic coast south around Florida to be the training carrier for flight students at Pensacola. I went aboard in Norfolk, did absolutely nothing since it was essentially a skeleton crew with no flight ops. The whole thing was I think 4 days.
I noticed however footprints on the bulkhead and had asked about them. One of the ship's crew said that just a few weeks prior it was in the middle of a tropical storm off Florida and the role was so bad at some point people were walking on the bulkheads. I just can't imagine that in a carrier.
