Looking to take another class. I really like Pat's videos he post on his training. He has several classes coming up in Carthage. Anyone ever took his TAPS class? Looking at it or the Shooting around vehicles. Anyways thanks for any info you've got on them!

His fundamentals classes are very good. Sends you home with a lot of good material to keep evolving on your own. He always gave me some very good tips that help tweak my shooting and improve a lot.

I’ve taken his vehicle class also as well as the Defensive Concepts North Carolina one. The DCNC is a much better vehicle class and would recommend it over Pat’s any day. Pat’s class is more a mixture of a fundamentals class with a vehicle class. DCNC’s is a much more complete vehicle class. The DCNC instructors are patrol cops that are in and out of vehicles every day. His tips and experience is very good. He goes over so many small little details about gear placement and many more useful things. It was a much more complete class.

Thanks I looked at DCNC's schedule the other day and didn't see a vehicle class. The TAPS vehicle class probably won't work for me since I'd have to get off work but the August TAPS class is on my 4 day break so it's gtg. I'll probably sign up for it in the next couple days seems like it would be a good class.

Probably because they just had one last month. You’ll still get a lot at Pat’s class. I strongly suggest you bring an N95 mask with you for when you shoot through the windshield. Glass dust in the lungs is not something you want.

I am honestly extremely picky about other instructors. To be honest I do not like quite a few nor their teaching styles/materials including many in NC that I have taken. I believe a good instructor is always a student, and you can always learn at least ONE thing from someone. Pat Mac is in one of my top 5 instructors as far as realism in what he teaches, actual applicability, etc. What he teaches is not fluff or BS, it is just good solid defensive fundamentals. He is a little.... intense as far as personality, but he is extremely knowledgeable and will give you tools to take home, just like we do, which I appreciate. Within my top 5 are him, clint smith, kyle lamb, travis haley, and aaron cowen. Nothing they teach is fluff or BS or just unproven nonsense they spew for a watch or a like... unlike many others.

Thanks. I think I’m going to sign up for one of his taps classes. I’ve taken a Cowan rds class and really enjoyed it. Still need to come hit one of yours too!

Pat is as good as it gets. As said above, he can be intense, but he is highly approachable and can break it down Barney style.

Well I signed up for his TAPS class in August. Going to give it a go and see what I can pick up from him.

Just an FYI, Pat Mac is teaching at Sorinex Tactical “The Farm” in Leesville, SC (30mins SW of Columbia SC). They’ve got a thousand yard range, elevated connex platforms, and three 360* 50yd (from berm to berm) shooting pits. I think their whole place is 250ac or so.

Leupold did an LR Academy video there last fall:

Sorinex tactical is an offshoot of the Sorinex Equipment (weights/fitness) company located in Lexington SC

So I am going over my equipment. A few weeks ago I added a Vortex Strike eagle to my BCM mid length rifle. This is my first venture into the LVPO world ad I have about 50 rounds on this optic, rifle has 1500+ so I don't worry about it at all. I have been a red dot guy since I got into AR's 10 years ago. So here's my question would it serve me better to switch back to a dot or take another gun that's got a dot ( it'd be my 12.5" pistol that I have 3-400 rounds through) or just go with the Vortex on the BCM? Not sure what the distances are in his TAPS class, I just don't want my unfamiliarity with the LVPO to negatively impact my learning in the class. @Sigma05 @Chuckman @11B CIB or anyone else who has taken the TAPS class

If you're good with the vortex to three hundred yards or so, you should be good to go.

I'll have to do some more shooting with it before I'm comfortable with it

Then use your RDS if that's what you're comfortable with. The ranges won't be ridiculous.

Yeah that will probably be best. I've got the LVPO zeroed but only have one range session on it so far.

I ran my G36C with 8” barrel and Trijicon MRO red dot during his class. I didn’t feel I needed anything more. I also had my other rifle with a 1-8x scope, but never used it. Like somebody else suggested, I would get comfortable with the Vortex first before taking it to a more involved class. It could get in the way of you focusing on the class if you’re not used to it.

Pat is a good guy, haven't seen him since 85' when we went to dive school in Key West. We also went thru Airborne School and SF Qualification Course back in 84'. If I had the time I would attend his courses.
